This week we get to know Emma Murphy, our Business Development Manager here at never.no a little better.
What's your role at never.no?
I am a newbie only having started here 4 months ago as the Business Development Manager, so I am still learning the ropes, but my role is to create new leads, generate new business and retain and manage current business.
What was your background before joining never.no?
This is a completely different industry for me as previous I worked in Sports Licensing, working with the all the major football clubs worldwide for 23 years. I have decided it was time for change in career path to learn something new before the years slip away from me!
Best piece of advice ever given?
An old boss of mine once told me to always think of the next question, always be ready with an answer, in other words be one step ahead, always be ahead of the game. It has always stuck with me and ever since I have used it in my everyday approach.
What are you watching at the moment?
I have just finished watching the last series of Power (love the theme tune), and I am also watching Ozark series two. Both equally good but Ozark just tips it as it never fails to keep you interested.
Whats your favourite STORY feature?
I like the polling aspect as I think when the audience feels like they have made a difference, been part of, interacted or had a say on their favourite show, this makes for loyal viewers and it's a bit of fun which everyone needs a bit of in their life.
Best Ad you've seen recently?
The latest Money Supermarket one featuring Sindy. The part with the police man where he throws his coffee and shows his teeth made me laugh out loud, (it's the little things in life right).
If you could work in any city in the world what would it be?
I lived away for 3 years in Holland and it was a great life experience for me and loved living and working there. I have also been privileged to be able to travel with my previous jobs having visited most major cities, so I have a few: Tel Aviv, Copenhagen, Seattle (I like rain) and New York. But of course, I am a Manchester Girl, so you can take the girl out of Manchester but not Manchester out of the girl.
Next destination on your travel bucket list?
I fancy Cuba or Mexico.
Whats your social network of choice?
Facebook because I have many friends dotted all over the UK and all over the world so it's great to be able to curtain twitch and see what everyone is up to.
Highlight of your career so far?
Having the opportunity to be able to move countries for work, developing international culture skills through developing relationships with companies and people from different countries all over the world. This is a life skill that can't be learnt in the classroom but only in practice.
Dogs or cats?
Dogs definitely, I don't mind cats, but I was brought up with dogs, so I think that's why I favour them. Having a dog also encourages you to get outdoors more and take long walks so keeps you fit and healthy. You get a lot of affection and loyalty from dogs, he leaps on me when I walk in the door, I don't see my husband or the kids doing that... :)
What song do you currently have on repeat?
To be honest, I don't do music through ear plugs (I just can't stand it) so don't have anything on repeat, I just sing along to anything anyone puts on in the office or at home.
What do you think is the biggest missed opportunity in broadcast/advertising at the moment?
From an advertising POV, social media is used for everything now and the average consumer wants to have inclusion and is currently sharing brands across social media formats without the brands being involved or being aware. If brands include the consumer in the journey this would increase brand popularity and in turn boost their own social media growth. And obviously we have Story the technology to enable brands to engage with their audience via their advertising, so what is everyone waiting for?
