Demonstrations of Latest Version of Aqua Ion, Updates to Akamai IO and Mobitest, and Speaker Sessions Intended to Help Attendees Improve Web User Experience

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - June 11, 2013 - Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM), the leading cloud platform for helping enterprises provide secure, high-performing user experiences on any device, anywhere, is showcasing its Web experience optimization expertise at Velocity 2013, taking place June 18-20, 2013 at the Santa Clara Convention Centre, Santa Clara, CA. Through a variety of speaking sessions as well as booth demonstrations (Booth 608) of the companys Aqua Ion, Akamai IO and Akamai Mobitest, Akamai will show attendees how its solutions address the challenges of delivering situational performance to a widely diverse set of users.

Demonstrations of Akamai Situational Performance Technology

Throughout Velocity 2013, Akamai will host live demonstrations showcasing a variety of technologies that can help organizations better achieve situational performance. Attendees can see firsthand how features such as Real User Monitoring, mobile optimization and new Front end Optimizations in the latest version of Aqua Ion can improve the Web experience for users independent of device or network.

Further, the company will also be showcasing updates to two important tools developers can use to better understand how mobile delivery and browser market share may impact Web design and optimization choices.

Akamai Mobitest is a free tool created to raise awareness about mobile web performance and its potential impact on the end user. Developers can enter a URL and then choose a device/location option. The desired page is loaded on a real mobile device and rich detail about how long it took to load - including waterfall charts and video recording of the page load - are provided. New devices and locations on which to test pages will be debuted at Velocity 2013.

For Akamai IO, a data visualisation tool that provides browser usage trends across a number of leading Web sites, a variety of powerful new filtering and grouping functionality has been added, along with new geographical views of the data. These updates allow the presentation of much richer data around browser and device market share, including which device brands are popular in which regions, what browsers are used on the Android platform, and others. Having this data readily available can help developers prioritise optimizations for their Web properties based on how users may most likely access content.

The Velocity 2013 conference programme features a variety of sessions presented by Akamai Web experience experts. Sessions in which Akamai will participate include:

Bits on the Wire: On Tuesday, June 18 at 11:00 a.m. PT, Akamai Principal Architect Mark Nottingham will address not only the variety of things that can happen to your content as it gets mangled by the Internet during transit, but also the steps attendees can take to ensure that the mangling does not impact performance.

A Picture Costs a Thousand Words: On Tuesday, June 18 at 3:30 p.m. PT, Akamai Chief Product Architect Guy Podjarny will present a tutorial session to review the various tools and techniques that can help keep images from slowing down Web site performance. He will also discuss whats next for image optimization.

Resolution For a Faster Site - How DNS Affects Page Load Time: On Wednesday, June 19 at 11:20 a.m. PT, Akamai Senior Director of Product Management Ido Safruti will address how DNS can impact performance and share research and insights on DNS performance. His session will cover the different ways browsers and devices handle DNS and are impacted by it, as well as tips for better DNS handling that will result with more robust and better performing sites.

HTTP/2.0: Whats Happening, and Whats Next?: On Wednesday, June 19 at 5:00 p.m. PT, Akamai Principal Architect Mark Nottingham will moderate a panel of industry experts who will offer their perspectives on progress in the development of HTTP/2.0 and what it means for Web performance.

Whats the Situation: Optimising Performance Based on the End User Circumstance: On Thursday, June 20 at 9:50 a.m. PT, Akamai Chief Architect Stephen Ludin will offer his perspective on ways to identify the end users situation, determine the best optimizations to employ and how those optimizations directly impact performance with the end goal of providing an answer to the situational performance challenge.
