Ericsson takes the pulse to the latest technological trends in their Innovation Roadshow 2015 From 20 to 22 October, world-class experts are debating in the R & D Center of Ericsson in Madrid about the latest trends in media, telco, networks, energy and transportation industries.

Blueberry has done a review of how Ericsson is revolutionizing providing value-added solutions all these industries. In the case of the media area, it has emphasized the great ecosystem that Ericsson has managed to put together in recent years both with their own technology and through the purchase of companies such as Tandber, Devoteam, Technicolor, Red Bee, Azuki, Mediaroom (Microsoft) or Phabrix.

In this way it offers solutions in compression for video on demand, middleware, IPTV, Tv Manager Services, storage and processing in cloud, OTT services and broadcast consultancy.

Ultra high definition

Mark Horton, Product Manager for Ericsson compression solutions, has delivered an interesting lecture on Ultra high definition and the opportunities provided by the use of a high dynamic range (HDR).

Horton started his intervention Recalling that IBC 2013, Ericsson carried out a 4K live multi-camera broadcast shows, one year later would receive the award for research on 4K and already in 2015 have shown the first 4 K emission in HDR.

Subsequently, through numerous examples of simple "Visual games" has laid the foundations of what it truly means 4 K resolution and frame rate and how factors such as screen size or distance that the viewer note it can determine very different experiences. On the other hand, key areas in the chain such as acquisition, post production and relationship aspect, compression, and consumer electronics (in relation to the distance and screen size), according to Horton, would benefit from substantial savings with the use of the HDR to Ultra high definition.

The user experience

Enrique Villar, director of TV & Media at Ericsson Iberia, has exposed how the value chain is breaking in our industry giving rise to an ecosystem of rich media. "Now is the time to step forward and take advantage of the new golden age of media. The opportunities are on all sides. The string is transformed because new technologies are causing those who generate content can access directly to the user and generate new business", it said.

For Villar that user experience is simple and attractive will be key to access to a wide range of content. The new elements that will play a decisive role in this unique user experience will be a multi-device (seamless between them) environment, discovery of content and immersive content. "It is key that users can find the content they want in any device and time," he stressed.
