Call for applications for 7th Talents Durban at DIFF --

The 35th Durban International Film Festival (DIFF) calls for applications for the 7th Talents Durban (formerly Talent Campus Durban), which takes place from 17 to 22 July.
This year s Talents Durban theme is Continent of Contrast / de Contrastes, which is an ode to Contras city (City of Contrast), the first film the godfather of African cinema, Djibril Diop Mamb ty, made 45 years ago.
In celebration of the anniversary of the film, the 7th Talents Durban wants to motivate filmmakers from across Africa to draw inspiration from the continent s long tradition of storytelling.
By breaking away from the stereotypical and homogenous narrative of Africa, this year s edition of Talents Durban aims to highlight the fact that the continent is home to numerous cultures, colours and stories.
Ultimately, Talents Durban wants to create a culture of Africans telling their own stories, while highlighting the stories of Africa, and provide filmmakers with the tools to facilitate their careers in the international film industry.
Selected participants will have the opportunity to meet with international industry professionals, experts and mentors in various sectors of the filmmaking business through participation in a five-day programme of master classes, workshops and industry networking events.
Running parallel to the 35th DIFF programme, this year s Talents Durban will offer three hands-on training programmes, namely Doc Station which will focus on documentary filmmaking; Talent Press which is dedicated to film criticism; and Script Station which will supports story development.
Talents will also have access to networking events during DIFF.
Applicants can apply online at www.durbanfilmfest.co.za before 31 March 2014.
Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Successful applicants will be informed via email by 21 April 2014.
