Berklee Alumni Win Four Latin Grammys

Three Berklee alumni won gold-plated gramophones at the 20th annual Latin Grammy Awards, which took place November 14 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Hailed as the biggest night in Latin music, the ceremony was hosted by Ricky Martin and actresses Roselyn Sanchez and Paz Vega.

Nella Rojas B.M. 15, who performs as Nella, won the Best New Artist award in her first year of being nominated. Juan Luis Guerra 82 won two Latin Grammys: one for Best Contemporary/Tropical Fusion Album for the 11-song compilation, Literal, and the second for Best Tropical Song for Kitipun. Gustavo Casenave 97 won in the Best Instrumental Album category for Balance.

Since the Latin Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences founded the awards in 2000, 39 Berklee alumni or faculty have received 99 Latin Grammy Awards.
