All that glitters will be gold when South Africa's horseracing fraternity heads to Turffontein on Saturday 26 November for the 2022 Betway Summer Cup hosted by horse racing operator 4Racing.

Gauteng's most prestigious horse racing event at the historic Turffontein racecourse promises to be a sparkling affair. It will bring together an exhilarating horse racing experience with some of the country's elite thoroughbred champions, entertainment and an awesome day out for the family.

4Racing CEO Fundi Sithebe Sithebe told The Citizen that they want to change the general perception that horse racing is only for the rich and middle-aged generation.

It shouldn't be the sport of Kings, Queens, Princes and Princesses - it should be a sport for everyone.

Sithebe said they are looking for young Gen Z blood to join the horse racing fraternity and therefore the event offers an exciting lifestyle element.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE 2022 BETWAY SUMMER CUP The People's Race promises something for everyone. While the exhilarating horse races will be the main highlight of the day, the popular event promises to cater for the whole family.

World-class horse racing This year, the coveted Betway Summer Cup title race will see stakes of R2.5 million in prize money on the line.

With 19 runners carded to go to post for the golden cup for the coveted Grade 1 race over 2000m, there is no doubt nine-time Summer Cup-winning trainer Mike De Kock has the strongest hand in the race.

De Kock's splendid horses Sparkling Water, Safe Passage, Aragosta and MK's Pride will taking their place in the field, with the first trio currently occupying the first three spots on the betting boards.

Powerful partnerships come to life Super-group owned Betway is the headline sponsor for the top horse racing event. Additional partners and sponsors for the event include Johannesburg Tourism. DStv, Supersport and SABC Sport will broadcast he horse racing event live from Turffontein.

Half-time show featuring Lady Zamar Award-winning pop songstress Lady Zamar will set the scene for the last race of the day as the headline act of the half-time show. The Betway Summer Cup is the only race day such a show.

Taking inspiration from the NFL, the show brings together a colourful blend of performers to dial up the thrills just before the main race.

The fan-favorite Summer Garden The famed and all-time favorite Golden Summer Garden will stick to its fun-filled, laid-back experience offering. Located right alongside the lush green race track, with a close up view of the horse track finish line, the outdoor garden-themed party brings horse racing, food and entertainment together. Popular vendors at the Summer Garden include Strip Cheez and Black Chef Gourmet Burgers.

This year, artist performances include award-winning DJ, producer, media personality and businesswoman Dj Zinhle and singer-songwriter Boohle.

Moments wine pop-up A glorious occasion deserves a drink to go with it. Hence, Gauteng's most prestigious horse racing event will exclusively feature Moments Merlot wine. Owned and curated by media personality and The Wife Mbalenhle Mavimbela, the merlot will add the cherry on top to the event.
