WRAL s Premiere of Education Matters Ready to Air Sunday, Oct nd

WRAL-TV tapes the first episode of its new local program, Education Matters, which will broadcast on Sunday, Octber 2, 2016, at 11:30am on WRAL-TV.

WRAL-TV has the first episode of the new local program Education Matters ready for debut. Taping for the first broadcast took place on Thursday, September 29, 2016, in WRAL-TV's Studio A. The brand new program, launched the Public School Forum of North Carolina, premieres on Sunday, October 2nd at 11:30am on WRAL-TV.

Keith Poston, President & Executive Director of the Public School Forum of North Carolina, serves as host of the program. WRAL-TV Director of Local Production Phyllis Parish is serving as Executive Producer. Parish shared about the first episode with Capcom:

We focus on NC's teacher pipeline for the premiere episode of Education Matters. Close to 15% of our state's teachers left the classroom last year. While working on the first show, I learned 35% of teachers in some of our eastern counties leave the profession every year. That's startling! And it means the teacher shortage is already at a crisis level in certain parts of our state.

These stats show why we need to help our viewers better understand what's really going on in our public schools. I grew up in North Carolina. My mother was a teacher. I'm a product of our public schools and I can say I had great teachers back in the day. But what kind of education are we providing today's students with that kind of teacher turnover rate? Keith Poston and the Public School Forum are experts in the field of education and will do a good job tackling these tough questions each week.

Education Matters will move to its permanent time slot, Saturdays at 7:30pm, beginning November 26, 2016. The program will also be available online on http://www.wral.com/ and https://www.ncforum.org/.
