Calling all coders, screenwriters, hackers, futurists, directors, the generally curious, and anyone who has a story to tell: here comes Tribeca Innovation Week!
The worlds of culture, technology and storytelling will collide during the first-ever Tribeca Innovation Week at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival (TFF), presented by AT&T.
Running April 21-26, the week will further Tribeca's mission to connect with the creative and tech communities. To be part of the action, participants can choose between wide-access passes (Platinum Pass and Gold Pass) and single event tickets, allowing them to tailor Innovation Week to their specific interests.
Here are the 6 major events taking place at Tribeca Innovation Week:
The 5th Annual Tribeca Disruptive Innovation Awards (TDIA), co-sponsored by Accenture and AT&T, will anchor the weeklong program. Made possible through collaboration with Harvard professor (and father of the Disruptive Innovation Theory) Clayton Christensen, this beloved event honors innovators and disrupters from all fields, including healthcare, education, religion, sports, politics, media and gaming. Previously open only by invitation, this year's awards are open to the public. The theme will be From Outer Space to Inner Space: a New Sputnik Moment? We're also pleased to announce that TEDMED's Jay Walker will be receiving the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award. The full slate of honorees will be rolled out ahead of the Festival, but you can learn more about the first 15 honorees now by checking out the official TDIA website.
Future of Film Live Series (April 21 24) Our beloved series returns with a great line-up of live programs that explore the status of cinematic narrative at the intersection of technology, culture and commerce. We're thrilled to kick off our series with a conversation with Oscar and Emmy -award winner Aaron Sorkin.
11th Annual Games for Change Festival (April 22 24 & 26) Based on the premise that digital games can bring about positive social change, the largest gaming event in New York City is now part of the Tribeca Film Festival! As part of the TFF Family Festival Street Fair, G4C and TFF will host the Games for Change Public Arcade for even the littlest innovators and gamers to enjoy. Help spread the word on Twitter and Facebook by using the hashtag #G4C14
Tribeca Hacks
sponsored by AT&T (April 25) For two days, creative media makers will work with technologists and designers to imagine and invent new possibilities for storytelling in an increasingly mobile and connected world. Using smartphones and tablets, participants will be able to experiment with all different storytelling modes. Want to mingle with these creative minds and some Festival VIPs? There will be an exclusive reception where creators present their finished works.
TFI Interactive (April 26) Returning for its third year, TFI Interactive (#TFIi), an initiative of the nonprofit Tribeca Film Institute with leadership support from the Ford Foundation, is back to assemble the brightest thinkers and innovators from the worlds of film, media, gaming, technology and society to explore storytelling in the digital age. This daylong summit includes keynote speeches, panel discussions and interactive activities to be announced in full in March.
Storyscapes, in collaboration with BOMBAY SAPPHIRE Gin The Tribeca Film Festival and BOMBAY SAPPHIRE proudly offer transmedia artists an opportunity to showcase their creativity within a Festival setting at the BOMBAY SAPPHIRE House of Imagination. For the second year in a row, visitors to this immersive gallery will see first-hand how the conventions of visual storytelling are changing through genre-bending projects. The five projects accepted into this year's section will be announced in March and the space will be open to the public for four days during the Festival.
Want to get the full Tribeca Innovation Week experience? There will be two passes available for purchase: the Platinum Pass, priced at $599 through February 21 and $699 from February 22 through the TFF, and the Gold Pass, for $319 and $299, respectively.
The Platinum Pass is all inclusive and includes access to six events and programs, including: 1) Future of Film, 2) Games for Change, 3) Tribeca Disruptive Innovation Awards/Breakouts, 4) Tribeca Hacks presentations, 5) private events held at Storyscapes, and 6) TFI Interactive. The Gold Pass is for the full week, excluding Games for Change.
Single event passes will be available for the 3-day Games for Change event ($499; non-profit price of $399 and student price at $100) and the Tribeca Disruptive Innovation Awards ($150 / ticket).
