LinkedIn Selects Grass Valley to Outfit New Production Studios with Hybrid IP/SDI Solutions

Open-standards Glass-to-Glass IP solution from Grass Valley at the heart of two 1080p studios

MONTREAL, April 17, 2016 LinkedIn, the world's largest professional network, has selected open-standards Glass-to-Glass IP and SDI solutions from Grass Valley, a Belden Brand, to equip its two new IP/SDI hybrid production studios in northern California. The studios will be used to telecast a variety of internal and external meetings and events, and are expected to be online in late spring 2016.

Grass Valley is supplying LinkedIn with four GV Node Real Time IP Processing and Edge Routing Platforms, two Karrera K-Frame Video Production Center switchers, two NV9000 Router Control Systems, Densit modular equipment and five RS-LDX WorldCam Integrated Robotic Camera Solutions, providing LinkedIn the ability to expand in the future. This solution represents a hybrid approach of combining best-in-class IP-based and SDI-based production equipment.

I spoke with other vendors, but Grass Valley's product roadmap offered the most complete product solution to meet our current needs and provide the production capabilities to scale in the future, said Gary Schneider, global production systems lead for content technology/media production, LinkedIn. GV Node in particular will give us the ability to connect our facilities in real time with low latency for worldwide distribution.

LinkedIns new San Francisco studio will be used for internal global company meetings and a variety of external events. It will be equipped with two GV Nodes, an NV9000, a 2 M/E Karrera K-Frame, a variety of Densit modular equipment and the five RS-LDX WorldCam cameras mounted in the ceiling to capture all angles of the audience and stage.

At Sunnyvale, the 30-by-30-foot studio will be outfitted with identical equipment, minus the cameras. The Sunnyvale stage will be part of an expansion into live productions that can be viewed worldwide.

The ideal solution for distributed production, GV Node gives LinkedIn the ability to broadcast live content across multiple locations. It delivers a broadcast-centric, real-time, distributed edge routing and IP processing node that supports IP and SDI workflows with vertically accurate switching and integrated processing.
