Boston Conservatory at Berklee Announces Center Stage Performances for Spring 2022 The premier series highlights four spring performances showcasing the Conservatory's incredible student talent across dance, music, and theater.

February 2, 2022

Boston Conservatory at Berklee is pleased to announce the spring lineup for its curated performance collection, Center Stage. The spring season will showcase four of the Conservatory's most extraordinary performances in dance, music, and theater.

The spring series will begin with Benjamin Britten's comic opera Albert Herring, March 24 to 27. Conducted by Andrew Altenbach and directed by Nathan Troup, the opera explores the themes of innocence and experience through a tale about coming of age in a small town. This springtime comedy, sung in English with English supertitles, abounds in musical wit, social satire, and hilarious caricature, and is performed by an ensemble cast and chamber orchestra.

From April 7 to 10, Center Stage will present the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning rock musical Rent, currently celebrating its 25th anniversary. Written by Jonathan Larson, who is the subject of the acclaimed 2021 film Tick, Tick Boom!, and inspired by Puccini's opera La Boh me, the musical follows a group of impoverished young artists and bohemians in Manhattans East Village in the 1990s living in the shadow of HIV/AIDS. This Center Stage performance will be directed by Herb Albert Visiting Professor Rickey Tripp and music directed by David Pepin.

On April 16, the Boston Conservatory Orchestra will perform a Center Stage concert at Boston's world-renowned Symphony Hall. Boston Conservatory Orchestra will present a program of powerful works by Adolphus Hailstork and Quinn Mason, in addition to pieces by alum Stefan Thompson (M.M. 21, composition) and professor emeritus of Africana Studies Bill Banfield. The event will feature a chorus of Boston Conservatory at Berklee and Berklee College of Music performers, with Berklee College of Music Assistant Chair of Voice Philip Lima as soloist.

Closing out the spring Center Stage season will be the annual spring dance concert, Limitless, from April 21 to 24. The concert will be an incredible celebration of dance by some of the worlds leading choreographers. The lineup includes four masterwork reconstructions-Interwoven by Victor Quijada, Five Brubeck Pieces by Murray Louis, Shelter by Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, and La Vivandiere (aka Markitenka) by Arthur Saint-Leon-as well as a world premiere by Jennifer Archibald.
