Dolly Parton has been named as the recipient of the Courage & Civility Award with an attached $100,000,000 to give to charity.

Dolly Parton has been named as the recipient of the Courage & Civility Award with an attached $100,000,000.

The Courage & Civility Award is funded by billionaire Jeff Bezos, famous for owning Amazon.

Dolly Parton given $100,000,000 award Bezos announced the award on Friday while flanked by his partner and news anchor Lauren Sanchez.

Sanchez delivered the brief tribute to Dolly Parton though, a figure revered far beyond fans of country music roots.

She also added: We can't wait to see all the good that you're going to do with this $100 million award.

Dolly Parton is a noted philanthropist and staunch supporter of the LGBTQIA community.

She gratefully accepted the award and promised to do good things with the money.

In a video from the ceremony Dolly Parton accepted the award saying: Wow! Did you say $100 million?

I think people who are in a position to help should put their money where their heart is.

I will do my best to do good things with this money.

She donated $1 million to fund research to develop a cure for COVID-19 not too long ago and has supported literacy programmes that put books in the hands of children.

Parton established the Dollywood Foundation, named for her theme park in Sevier County, Tennessee back in 1988 with the goal of supporting education in the immediate area.

However, in 1995 the foundation became the Imagination Library, a program that distributes books to children across the globe, free of charge.

Dolly Parton supports human dignity Parton is a gay icon and supporter of the LGBTQIA community.

She believes in everybody's right to be their authentic selves.

I think everybody should be treated with respect, Dolly Parton told CNN in 2016.

She also said: I don't judge people, and I try not to get too caught up in the controversy of things. I hope that everybody gets a chance to be who and what they are.
