Guggenheim Hosts Global Citizen Impact Lab; Is Represented at United Nations Week

Since its founding in 2001, the Nyaka AIDS Orphan Project has worked to help 1.1 million orphans living with HIV/AIDS in Uganda by building two primary schools, a vocational secondary school, a health clinic, two gravity-fed water systems, a farm and nutrition program, and two community libraries. Nyaka is also working with the caretakers of these orphans to give them skills and resources to escape poverty including micro-finance loans, vocational training, counseling, farming tools, seeds, new homes, smokeless kitchens, and pit latrines.

Minerd shared the announcement with thousands that weekend on the Great Lawn in Central Park as part of the 4th annual Global Citizen Festival, which brings together change-makers, politicians, entertainers and activists to urge leaders and citizens to commit to ending extreme poverty by 2030.

On behalf of Guggenheim Partners, a global investment firm, I am honored to be standing here in front of an audience of 60,000 people driven to ending extreme poverty, and doing the measurable, meaningful work to bring about the change that is necessary to millions of people around the world, he said.

That push to end poverty was underscored by the unveiling of the United Nations Post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals, intended to serve as a roadmap to solving global problems and providing opportunity. The list was voted on and confirmed by individual UN Country Representatives on Sept. 26 at this year's United Nations General Assembly.

Minerd also participated in the Celebratory Toast at the Solutions Summit on Sept. 27. The Solutions Summit, hosted at the United Nations Headquarters, marks the beginning of a longer-term grassroots effort to lift up exceptional innovators technologists, engineers, and scientists who are developing solutions that address the 17 Post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals.
