Shanghai Media Tech (SMT), as a high-quality technical team that has undertaken the Tour of Taihu Lake, Tour de France Shanghai, and Ring of quanzhou bay international road cycling racehas rich experience in broadcasting of cycling events. After receiving the task of Giro d'Italia SMT teamed up with the event organizer IMG and the domestic senior sports program production team Great Sports, so that the majority of domestic cycling enthusiasts can participate in the worlds top events in Shanghai without going abroad.

Technical Solutions For the Event

SMT sent 4K UHD S1 OB Van for this event. Based on the mature 2110-7 IP system, it has dual-zone production capabilities and up to 30 positions that can simultaneously complete the track competition and the carnival stage. 7 channel cameras, 1 ultra-high-speed camera, helicopters, motorcycles, drones, gopros, and other up to 15 special camera positions for external signal access plus 6 24-channel EVS slow motion playback systems which presented multi-angle and multi-directional content of this game for TV and online audiences.

Based on the previous circuit survey of the track, SMT technical team formulated a wireless signal transmission plan for Giro d Italia based on the previous experience in bicycle race broadcasting to ensure the stability and high quality of this event. In consideration of the characteristics of long distance, wide coverage, and fast moving speed of the bicycle race track, the helicopter has been used as an aerial wireless communication relay station to form an aerial and ground stereo wireless communication link with three motorcycles on the ground and another aerial helicopter.

In addition, this time SMT has integrated the advantages and strengths of various technologies and used wireless IP frequency synchronous simulcast technology to realize the cascade connection between the ground and the master-subordinated station of the channel helicopter walkie-talkie base station, completed the coverage of walkie-talkie base stations for the entire track.
