Entertainment commentator Phil Mphela has revealed that former Gomora actor Buyile Mdladla has replaced late playwright and actor Mncedisi Shabangu in Uzalo as Gabisile's lover Mthambisi Phakathi. Mdladla played the villainous role of Phumlani Ndaba in Mzansi Magic's telenovela.

INSIDE BUYILE MDLADLA'S LATEST ROLE The show's fan-favourite couple Nkunzi and Gabisile will also go through a rough patch when she cheats on him with Mthambisi Phakathi, played by former Gomora actor Buyile Mdladla. The SABC1 soapie revealed in July that late actor, playwright, and theatre director Mncedisi Shabangu, who died on Sunday, 23 July was set to play the new villain Mthambisi Phakathi in Uzalo.

The show also revealed that his character will be played by another actor after his death.

The TVSA teasers reveal that Gabisile and Nkunzi will struggle to reconnect romantically when he returns to KwaMashu and that she will cheat on him for the second time after leaving him for his brother Qhabanga in the previous season.

A mystery man makes a jaw-dropping donation while Gabisile rejects the advances of persistent Mthambisi.

The Friday 23 September reads:

Gabisile is intrigued by Mthambisi Phakathi.

Friday 30 September:

Gabisile's past comes back to bite her when she's forced to partner with a fling.

UZALO' DETAILS MTHAMBISI PHAKATHI'S ROLE According to Sowetan, the introduction of Phakathi's character to the storyline is going to rock Nkunzi's (played by Masoja Msiza).

Phakathi is a reputable businessman and set to fall in love with Gabisile (Baby Cele) who has been having an on-and-off relationship with Nkunzi.

Uzalo shares more details about the character in a statement:

Mncedisi was going to play a role of a reputable businessman who amassed his wealth through crime. Phakathi always makes sure that his dark side is never revealed. He came into our world wanting nothing but revenge from the Magwaza family who took everything from him. He fell in love with Gabisile bringing friction in Nkunzi's world.
