Amazon is rolling out its Prime Vision data overlay feed for the streamer's coverage of the Champions League.

The feed will provide real-time statistics, graphics and analytics superimposed on the live coverage, with aspects such as player names, running speed, jump height, shot speed, expected goals, passing options and a momentum bar displayed to viewers.

Skeletal tracking data provides the position of all 22 players on the field, while statistical models measure the momentum as the match ebbs and flows.

It will make its debut for this evening's match between Tottenham and Villareal during the opening fixtures of the league stage of the tournament. Amazon will then make it available in Germany and Italy.

The optional feed (viewers will also be able to select standard coverage) aims to provide fans with more insight into some of tactical aspects of the match. Amazon said that Prime Vision serves as a laboratory and incubator for new features that may eventually advance to the main feed.

Amazon has previously done similar for NFL in the US, where Prime Vision was rolled out in 2023 - it then picked up an Emmy for its interactive experience.

Amazon's addition of a separate, data-rich feed for its Champions League coverage follows similar rollouts from other broadcasters.

In March, DAZN France, LFP (Ligue de Football Professionnel) and Genius Sports launched LFP Data Zone, a stats-driven viewing mode that provides real-time metrics and data. LFP Data Zone was made available for the Marseille v Nantes fixture on Monday 2 March and will be available for one match per week on DAZN, the domestic broadcaster of Ligue 1.

TVP Sport launched an additional Hawk-Eye' feed for its Euro 2024 coverage, offering a comprehensive array of data and statistics to viewers in Poland. Available via TVP's online channels including its website, mobile app, and smart TV app it was introduced during the opening Euro 2024 match between Germany and Scotland. The feed for that match was also distributed via YouTube in Poland to promote the offering.

The June 2024 Danish Cup final saw the rollout on Viaplay of Manager Mode', with a map of player movements, player names and key statistics. That was powered by Genius Sports, which in 2023 provided for Premier League Productions Data Zone', a viewing mode for live Premier League matches it distributes around the world with information such as player names, passing accuracy, shot speeds, sprints, total distance travelled, touches in the final third and pitch maps presented via an L-bar' overlay.
