Monthly print circulation figures will now appear in the report for all magazines
Digital Publication figures will be included in the report for the first time
ABC has announced two new improvements to the Consumer Magazines Report. Firstly the report will now include monthly print circulation figures for all magazines and secondly, Digital Publication figures will be included in the report for the first time.
These additions will be part of the Consumer Magazines Report released on 14th August. The report will cover the period January-June 2014.
Reporting of monthly data is now mandatory for all Consumer Magazines, either the individual issue data for monthlies or an average across the month for weeklies. This was agreed as part of a package of significant changes by the ABC Board in January. Monthly data can be found on the ABC Certificate and will appear as Average Monthly Circulation* in the Consumer Magazines Report. This will offer a greater level of transparency and granular detail to the media industry.
For the first time, publishers will be able to report Digital Publication figures in the Consumer Magazines Report. This is in line with ABC's vision for publishers to be able to demonstrate their multi-platform brand reach. These figures will appear in section 1 of the report, as well as Gross Circulation**, print circulation and Digital Edition circulation.
Jerry Wright, Chief Executive, ABC comments: These further improvements to the Consumer Magazines report show that ABC is constantly innovating to meet the needs of the entire media industry. As the number of platforms increases, ABC will continue to help the industry to develop relevant new metrics , to audit them to its consistently rigorous standards and deliver industry-owned media brand certification across all channels.
Changes to the reporting of ABC Consumer Magazine coming into effect
It is now mandatory for all Consumer Magazines to report monthly average data on their certificate (either the individual issue data for monthlies or an average across the month for weeklies). This will be also published in the Consumer Magazines report as Average Monthly Circulation. Please note that this will appear in section 16
*Average Monthly Circulation is the average circulation of issues distributed in a calendar month. For example, if the May issue is distributed on 30th April it will appear in the April average. There will be an average figure provided for each month and the number of issues in each month will also be displayed
**Combined Totals will now be called Gross Circulation
Gross Circulation and Digital Editions will now appear in section 1 of the report
Digital Publications will also appear in section 1 of the report, in a separate table to Gross Circulation and Digital Editions
Digital Publications will not be included in the Gross Circulation figure, but publishers can combine these figures in ABC QuickView provided they comply with ABC publicity byelaws, which require all figures to be clearly described and transparently presented
