Big Thief Release Passional Relations EP to Benefit LA Wildfire Relief Proceeds from the alumni bands five-song EP will go to the PLUS1LA Fires Fund, and to LA musicians, artists, and community members in need.

Big Thief, the visionary folk-rock group led by Adrianne Lenker BM '10 alongside Buck Meek BM '10 and James Krivchenia BM '14, have just released a new EP, Passional Relations, with all proceeds going to support the needs of the LA community in the wake of this winters devastating wildfires.

Our hearts are broken for everyone affected by the fires in California, the band said in a statement accompanying the EP. Our hope is that these contributions will not only help address the crucial and immediate needs of affected communities but also help sustain the work, identity, and culture of the artists within them.

The majority of the proceeds will be donated to the PLUS1LA Fires Fund, which directly supports organizations working on the ground to address critical needs like housing, education, animal welfare, and more, the statement reads. And the rest will go directly to local musicians, artists, and community members who need extra support during this time.

The band, whose members have already put out more music in the past 10 years than many musicians release over their careers, have compiled five of their favorite unreleased tracks, recorded between 2018 and 2020, for the digital release. Fans of the band will be pleased to find these recordings as musically restless and lyrically arresting as weve come to expect from Big Thiefs best work, from the arid fuzz of Imagination to the Mazzy Star/outlaw country hybrid Waiting on Blue, or the dreamy full-band interpretation of Zombie Girl, first performed on Lenkers acclaimed 2020 album, Songs.
