On Sunday evening 13 November, Idols SA crowned warrant officer Thapelo Molomo as the winner of the popular Mzansi Magic singing competition.

The police officer's life has changed in the wink of an eye. He has not only walked away with R1 million in cash, but also a brand new Toyota Starlet.

Idols SA has given the instant millionaire access to a Standard Bank wealth manager. Some of his other prizes include a fashion voucher from Truworths, including all his live show outfits, R85 000 worth of musical equipment from Yamaha and a recording contract with Kalawa Jazmee Records.

1. THAPELO HAS A DEGREE IN PSYCHOLOGY The millionaire holds a BA (Hons) Psychology degree. It is not clear where he obtained it from, but he is a registered counsellor.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) says he is responsible for providing counselling and proactive psychological interventions to alleviate mental health ills for police members and their families

2. HE IS A LIMPOPO NATIVE The 29-year-old was born and bred in Mokopane, Limpopo. He attended his primary school at Diretsaneng Primary School and completed her matric at Phomolong Secondary School.

3. HE WAS PART OF SPIRIT OF PRAISE Thapelo was part of the Gospel group by Benjamin Dube Spirit of Praise back in 2012 where his love for Gospel music grew.

News24 reports that Thapelo says he knew he could sing from a young age, but it was not until he joined The Spirit of Praise Choir in 2012 that he realised he had a gift.

After joining Spirit of Praise, going through the process of the choir - I gained momentum and understood that I do have a gift, he told SA Positive News.

I did a lot of background singing for a lot of artists. I also tried my own ways and realised I needed a bigger platform to show off my talent, he told Timeslive.

4. HE IS A WARANT OFFICER Thapelo is a Warrant Officer for the South African Police Service that is currently stationed at the Brits Police Station.

5. HE IS A FATHER TO A DAUGHTER Thapelo told TimesLive that he plans on getting himself property with the money he won on the singing competition.

I plan to touch lives and get myself property, for my daughter as well. I need to leave a legacy for my baby. That's really important for me, said the latest local millionaire.
