New for NAB, Barix adds SRT and RIST support to Multicoder M400, the Audio over IP pioneer's next-gen Instreamer device - and for below $500
Barix will showcase its latest professional Instreamer and Exstreamer devices for Audio over IP transport across broadcast and media networks at NAB Show 2026, with an emphasis on format diversification to suit myriad scenarios and customer preferences. The Audio over IP pioneer will prioritize flexible parameters and configurations for its MultiCoder M400 and LX400 FLEXA codecs, and its now globally-deployed Reflector Evo cloud transport platform.
New for NAB, Barix has added both SRT and RIST support to its low-latency, multi-format MultiCoder M400, an IP encoder that can send audio streams to receive points in four separate formats. That flexibility has proven attractive for use in broadcast headends, media production centers and with remote service providers streaming content over disparate architectures. It also the industry's first option for an SRT or RIST encoder under $500, which establishes a highly attractive price point for all budgets.
The MultiCoder's SRT and RIST enhancement follows the addition of an SRT transport option to LX400 codecs, Barix's secure next-generation transport device built primarily for radio broadcasters. Those design traits include the freedom to configure the LX400 as either an encoder or decoder for deployment over traditional studio-to-transmitter (STL) IP connections, across point-to-point SRT paths, or within a multi-point enterprise Reflector Evo cloud network.
SRT and RIST offer similar benefits as open, interoperable and robust transport protocols for live, secure low-latency transport over the public internet and unmanaged networks, said Reto Brader, CEO, Barix. The addition of support for these protocols is primarily about giving our customers the freedom of choice this next generation of Barix hardware devices.
The MultiCoder M400 is all about freedom of choice and scalability over distinct network feeds. The device integrates four internal encoding engines capable of simultaneous operation, each supporting various low-latency RTP, BRTP, SRT and RIST protocols. Barix's multi-engine innovation allows the device to encode incoming audio from connected analog sources into OPUS, AAC+, PCM and 320KB mp3, and it can send multiple audio RTP/BRTP streams to receiving devices without delay while retaining exceptional quality. streaming on RTP, SRT or RIST.
The MultiCoder M400's greater CPU capacity also ensures plenty of space for new features and applications, providing a stronger foundation for ongoing customization and development. Like the LX400, it leverages a new Linux-based platform to provide robust security features, including HTTPS for the setup of the device.
The LX400 codec carries over many of the same features from other Barix devices that long-time broadcast customers use for STL, studio-to-studio and other audio networking applications, including multiple contact closures, relays and a USB port for direct-from-device playout. The LX400 also offer end-to-end delay control for RTP streaming and stream redundancy modes for uninterrupted broadcasting, whether used in a standard STL firmware configuration or within a Reflector EVO service. The latter, exclusively offered through Barix's longtime partner StreamGuys, offers full-duplex audio contribution and distribution in the cloud for enterprise-level broadcast applications.
