Hitachi Italy helps rebuild school in Esanatoglia hit by earthquake

Milan, Italy, February 7, 2018 --- Hitachi Europe Srl (Hitachi Italy) a subsidiary of Hitachi Europe Ltd. is proud to announce its participation in a project with The National Confederation of Misericordie in Italy to rebuild the Carlo Alberta Dalla Chiesa Secondary School in Esanatoglia, following its devastation at the hands of The Earthquake in Central Italy in August 2016.

The school, based in the Marche municipality of Esanatoglia, was badly damaged and condemned by the natural disaster, meaning pupils had to be temporarily relocated in order to continue their schooling causing much disruption to both theirs and their families' lives.

With Hitachi's global vision to deliver innovations that answer society's challenges, Hitachi Italy sought a way it could help and contribute to this local community. It partnered with The National Confederation of Misericordie in Italy to become a private backer for the project, along with four other companies. The agreement to fund the school re-build was signed on 1 February 2018 and building work will start this month with the aim to have the school completed by the summer.

Hitachi group companies in Italy including Ansaldo STS; Hitachi Drives & Automation; FIAMM Electric Technology; Hitachi Industrial Engineering; Hitachi Medical Systems and Hitachi Rail all came together to raise money for the project by encouraging staff to take part in fundraising activities, as well as contributing directly.

Whilst we cannot begin to imagine the utter devastation the earthquake caused for so many, we are proud to be able to support the project with Misericordie to rebuild the school in Esanatoglia, helping to give this town their community back. I'd like to thank all of Hitachi's staff in Italy for their fundraising efforts, as well as everyone involved in the project.

The new school will have an extension of more than 400 square meters, compared to its original size, and is designed to accommodate 60 students across three classrooms and a laboratory.
