
AFDA Cape Town 2014 graduation film, Happy Earth Co. , has won the Best Student Short Film award at the IMSFF (Independent Mzansi Short Film Festival) held at ASBOS theater in Pretoria. Congratulations to all cast and crew.

AFDA 2014 graduate films nominated at IMSFF
Three of the four nominees for Best Student Short Film at the Independent Mzansi Short Film Festival (IMSFF) are AFDA Cape Town 2014 graduate films: Stukkend , produced and directed by Courtney Challis-Chandler and Mia Holm, Happy Earth Co. , produced and directed by Henrik Tjore and Hylton Jandrell and The Initiate produced and directed by Liam Brandt and Toni Baroa. A load hoorah must go out for Catherine Bester, who is nominated for Best Makeup and Hairstyling on the film Stukkend in the professional category.
This year IMSFF is going underground as its theme and will be held at the ASBOS Theatre in the Karoo Cafe, C/O Lynnwood and Albeth Roads in Pretoria from July 2-5, where we'll screen up to 20 hours of short films from some of the most up-and-coming directors and producers in our country and around the world.

AFDA is proud to announce the official selection of the 2014 graduation films Stukkend and Him and I for the 36th Durban International Film Festival (DIFF) taking place from the 16th-26th July 2015 Congratulations to all the AFDA 3rd year cast and crew. A big BRAVO to Courtney Challis- Chandler who produced both films.
Being a Durbanite from day one, I have never been more stoked to receive the news that not one but two of my graduation films have the honor of being screened at the Durban International Film Festival. I am absolutely humbled, and cannot wait to share my passion of film making with my fellow Durbanites. IMSFF received over 800 film submissions and selected 79 films to be screened at the festival. Over 10% AFDA!
AFDA Cape Town alumni nominated at IMSFF
AFDA alumni have been nominated in 10 of 17 categories at the Independent Mzansi Short Film Festival (IMSFF). The film Nommer 37, is nominated in 8 categories, with AFDA alumni in all of the 8. AFDA Capetown alumni Travis Taute and Nosipho Dumisa are nominated for Best Short Film, Best Director of a Short Film, Best Original Screenplay and the VIDI Choice Award, Shamilla Miller for Best Actress, Zenn van Zyl for Best Cinematography and Simon Beesley for Best Editing. https://vimeo.com/103120377

AFDA Cape Town alumni count the awards at IMSS
AFDA Cape Town alumni, Nosipho Dumisa and Travis Taute have a gift with numbers. Their short film Nommer 37 (Gambit Films), which they produced, directed and scripted together was nominated for 10 awards at the IMFF (Independent Mzansi Short Film Festival 2015). Nommer 37 won 6 out of the 10: The VIDI Choice Award, Best Short Film, Best Director of a Short Film and Best Original Screenplay. Nommer 37 also won Best Actress - AFDA Cape Town alumni Shamilla Milller and Best Editing of a Short Film - AFDA Cape Town alumni Simon Beesley
AFDA Durban win two Simon Sabela Awards
AFDA Durban, only in its third year is already scooping up awards. Third year students Liana Barciela Hassim (writer/director) , Matthew Couperthwaite (producer), Temara Prem (cinematographer), and Darren Jaynarayan (editor and SFX) won the Simon Sibela Best Student film award for their AFDA 2014 2nd year film, Halfway House.
AFDA Durban also had Head of Film School, Richard Green walked off with the very prestigious Simon Sibela Lifetime Achievement award.
At the awards I was given 30 seconds to reflect on 40 year in the business , it made me think how quickly my contribution to the SA film industry is passing. It was an honour to be acknowledged by ones piers, and an even great honour to watch and applaud the crew of Half Way House a second year AFDA Durban film, win the award for best film student film.
AFDA alumni selected for Cannes South Africa Film Factory
AFDA Johannesburg alumni Sheetal Magan and Zee Ntuli are two of the four South African directors selected for the Cannes South African Film Factory out of an initial group of 30 high quality submissions. Sheetal and Zee , along with Samantha Nell and Zamo Mkhwanazi will collectively direct four short films with four international directors, which will be produced in KZN, and then will be screened on the Opening Day of the Cannes Directors Fortnight/La Quinzaine, in the official Cannes programme next year.
