Ofcom has welcomed two new members to its board, after the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) confirmed the appointment of Maggie Carver and Dr Angela Dean.

Maggie is currently Chairman of the British Board of Film Classification and the Racecourse Association. Starting her career in investment banking, Maggie has held a number of roles within the media industry - including sitting on the boards of ITN, Channel 5 and other organisations across the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. She was previously Managing Director of Channel 4 Racing, and worked on establishing the ITV franchise Meridian Broadcasting.

Dr Angela Dean was a financial analyst of European communications and technology companies for almost 20 years. She was a managing director at investment bank Morgan Stanley, heading up its global technology research team; and also its Director for Socially Responsible Investment. She was previously a trustee of the Heritage Lottery Fund and a former member of the Museums, Archives and Libraries Council.

Angela is currently Chair of International House Trust, a leading independent language organisation. She is a member of Council of Kings College London, and a trustee of York Museums Trust.

Their extensive experience, including in media and technology, will be a huge asset to Ofcom as we work to ensure people get the most from communications services. Appointment processThe Secretary of State has appointed both Maggie Carver and Dr Angela Dean to the Ofcom board for a four-year period, commencing 30 September 2018.

Both appointments have been made under the Cabinet Office's Governance Code on Public Appointments.1 The appointments process is regulated by the Commissioner for Public Appointments.

In accordance with the Cabinet Office's Governance Code on Public Appointments, any significant political activity undertaken by an appointee in the last five years must be declared. This is defined as including holding office, public speaking, making a recordable donation, or candidature for election.

2. The salary for Ofcom Board members is £42,519 per annum. Dr Angela Dean will receive £42,519 per annum and Maggie Carver, as Deputy Chair will receive £70,000 per annum.
