David Ransom has been announced as the new senior director of public safety and chief of police for Berklee College of Music. Ransom came to Berklee in the fall of 2018 as police captain, with more than 24 years of law enforcement experience. He spent 20 years in a large urban police department in El Paso, Texas, where he rose to the rank of lieutenant and was recognized in consecutive years as Officer of the Year and as a member of the Unit of the Year. Prior to joining Berklee, he held the position of assistant director of public safety at Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
Ransom demonstrates a strong professional commitment to continuous learning and law enforcement. In addition to his work in Berklee's Public Safety Department, he is an adjunct instructor in criminal justice at Bay State College, where he teaches a variety of courses. He has also developed a number of classes, including Leadership for Police Officers, First Line Supervisors, and an expanded Introduction to Criminal Justice course.
David Ransom has served as an exceptional officer and leader since joining Berklee last fall, said Richard Mac Hisey, senior vice president for finance and administration/chief financial officer for Berklee. He has implemented policies prioritizing the safety of all Berklee community members while creating a strong foundation between the college and our neighbors, and I am excited to see him continue to excel in his new role.
Ransom received his Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology with a minor in criminal justice from the University of Texas, a Master of Science degree in strategic leadership from Mountain State University, and is currently a doctoral candidate in global leadership at Indiana Tech University. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas.
