Ricky Duran Lights Up the Semifinals on The Voice

Earlier this week, Ricky Duran B.M. '11 advanced to the final round of NBC's The Voice with a showstopping rendition of the Beatles's Let It Be.

Duran, who earned a degree in music business/management from Berklee and has pursued a musical career in Austin, Texas, began the song by accompanying himself on piano. He later wowed the audience with a guitar solo as a chorus sang harmonies behind him. In a video interview, Duran called the song his family anthem, recalling how his father and uncle sang it at family parties when he was a child.

The youngest of four children, Duran lost his father to suicide in 2012 and his mother in 2018 to breast cancer. He thanked his three sisters for their love and constant support.

A member of Team Blake [Shelton] on The Voice, Duran performed a duet on Monday night with Team [John] Legend's contestant Will Breman. The duo covered the Outfield's '80s pop hit Your Love. Duran and the other three finalists will perform in the season's two final episodes on Monday, December 16, and Tuesday, December 17.

Other Berklee-trained singers to compete on The Voice have included Mendeleyev Allan-Blitz B.M. '16 and Brooke Stephenson B.M. '14, who each gained attention earlier this season; and past contestants Erika Zade, Courtney Harrell 01, and Jackie Foster B.M. '18.
