RT secures 36 nominations in 2016 PPI Radio Awards shortlist

RT has secured 36 nominations in the shortlist for this year's PPI Radio Awards. From news, young people's, breakfast radio, documentary, music, current affairs, sport, rural affairs, drama, Irish-language, comedy, station imaging, and innovation, the shortlist spans a wide range of genre and six RT radio services.

Jim Jennings, MD RT Radio, says: This shortlist is testament to the public service breadth and character of RT 's fm and digital radio services. From ground-breaking current-affairs to innovative children's programming, from rural affairs to unique and increasingly rare genre, such as radio drama, these nominations span a wide range of services and an expansive array of subjects, stories, genre and people, in both languages. The best of luck to all the nominees.

90 judges, drawn from the industry in Ireland and Europe, judged 282 hours of submissions from the 700 entries across 37 categories. The ceremony will take place at the Lyrath Estate Hotel, Kilkenny on Friday October 7th. The Awards, sponsored by PPI and the BAI, are a much sought after accolade and the highlight event in the radio industry calendar.

In advance of the Awards night, this Friday, September 16th, will see the induction of four new members of the PPI Radio Awards Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame event will take place at 11.30am at the BAI offices in Dublin. The four members will be kept a secret until the 16th and will join those already inducted such as Mich al Muircheartaigh, ine Lawlor, Mario Rosenstock, Jimmy Magee, Marian Finucane, Gay Byrne, Des Cahill, the late Gerry Ryan, and the late Tony Fenton.
