Ancestors were gay': EFF MP slams Anti-Homosexuality BillEFF MP, Naledi Mpungose has slammed the Anti-Homosexuality Bill, Uganda President Yoweri Museveni and the country's MPs.

In light of the Anti-Homosexuality Bill, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Member of Parliament Naledi Mpungose has blasted Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, saying he should read to find out about the sexuality of Africans before colonialism boldly claiming ancestors were gay.

The party held a picket outside the Ugandan Embassy in Pretoria, on Tuesday, 4 April calling for Museveni not to sign the Bill into law.

EFF MP ON ANTI-HOMOSEXUALITY BILL On 21 March, the Ugandan Parliament overwhelmingly passed the Anti-Homosexuality Bill, 2023 and under the bill's provisions, a person who publicly identifies as LGBTIQ could face 20 years in prison.

The new bill will make identifying as LGBTIQ illegal in Uganda

Even children could be jailed if they engage in same-sex acts

People who provide accommodation to LGBTIQ also face jail time

There are calls for President Museveni to veto the bill

If signed by President Yoweri Museveni, the bill will add to the already existing colonial-era ban on homosexuality.

The former EFF student activist took to Twitter to say that everything about the Bill is colonial.

President Museveni and the Parliament of Uganda must pick up books and read rocks if they want to know about the sexuality of Africans pre-colonisation. There is nothing African about killing Africans because they are gay. Everything about the Anti-Homosexuality Bill is colonial, she wrote.

Furthermore, when responding to a person who commented on her post, the EFF member took it a step further and said ancestors were gay.

Then you don't know yourself or your lineage even your ancestors were gay. Hatred of gays comes from colonial rulers, same as hatred for your skin color, not our esteemed ancestors, she said.
