
SES shares his vision of the future 5G ecosystem at Mobile World Congress Luis S nchez-Merlo, presidente de SES Astra Ib rica, asegura en Barcelona que el sat lite ser una tecnolog a imprescindible en la respuesta a una conectividad masiva gracias a la utilizaci n de arquitecturas mixtas terrestre-sat lite.
El operador internacional de sat lites SES ha expuesto este lunes en el MWC que se celebra estos d as en Barcelona, la importancia del sat lite en la configuraci n del pr ximo ecosistema de comunicaciones: las redes 5G.
Aunque no hay una fecha concreta sobre su implementaci n, su llegada es segura. As , la Uni n Europea se ha anticipado al poner en marcha el Grupo 5G Infraestructure PPP , en el que el sat lite est representado de la mano SES. La compa a, l der de su mercado con 55 sat lites en rbita, forma parte tambi n de la Asociaci n 5G PPP de la que es miembro fundacional. Una ambiciosa iniciativa que precisar de importantes inversiones p blicas y privadas.
El presupuesto que va a dedicar la parte p blica se estima en el entorno de los 700 M , mientras que la parte privada tambi n dedicar una cantidad similar a los 700 M ; sin embargo y de forma adicional, se estima que la industria de telecomunicaciones, fuera de este Grupo 5G PPP, invierta entre 5 y 10 veces esta cantidad en actividades que contribuir n al cumplimiento de los objetivos del 5G PPP.
Son las propias previsiones en h bitos y tendencias de la sociedad del futuro las que invitan a tomar en consideraci n alternativas tecnol gicas que hoy parecen descontextualizadas pero que en lo venidero se integrar n dentro de un nuevo ecosistema. Se estima que los pr ximos seis a os el volumen del tr fico de datos sea 1.000 veces el actual y que los dispositivos conectados se habr n multiplicado por 100 en el mismo periodo.
Seg n ha explicado hoy en Barcelona Luis S nchez-Merlo, presidente de SES Astra Ib rica, el sat lite y las futuras redes m viles terrestres compondr n arquitecturas mixtas que proporcionar n servicios integrados en una nica red m vil que aproveche las capacidades del sat lite en cobertura y distribuci n masiva de contenidos a los usuarios finales independientemente de su ubicaci n .
Por qu el sat lite?
El sat lite, por sus caracter sticas nicas, ofrece una serie de ventajas respecto a otras tecnolog as. Como ha manifestado el m ximo responsable de la compa a en Espa a, el sat lite proporciona mayor eficiencia en la distribuci n punto-multipunto, en la difusi n a zonas rurales o en garantizar lascomunicaciones en entornos complejos como lo son los territorios devastados por cat strofes naturales o conflictos armados y, en otro mbito, en el medio a reo o mar timo .
Otro punto a su favor tiene que ver con que, dada su limitada necesidad de medios terrestres y su total cobertura, el sat lite permite la distribuci n de datos y contenidos a audiencias masivas con un coste econ mico muy limitado y con un escaso uso de espectro. En lo que este aspecto afecta a las futuras redes 5G, el sat lite optimizar las redes de transporte terrestres descarg ndolas de tr fico de contenidos de v deo (y en particular de los emitidos en Alta Definici n) en su camino hasta los puntos de distribuci n de contenidos o CDNs (Content Delivery Networks) y de distribuci n de informaci n o ICN (Information Centric Networks).
Se posibilitar n tambi n servicios de banda ancha h brida mediante la combinaci n de soluciones de banda ancha por sat lite con otras tecnolog as y servicios de banda ancha eficientes en el uso del espectro radioel ctrico. Las nuevas tecnolog as por sat lite multi-haz en las bandas C, Ku y Ka, hacen posible la transmisi n de contenido bidireccional dirigido a reas reducidas y muy focalizadas, lo que permite mayor capacidad y velocidad independientemente de la ubicaci n del usuario, ya sea en tierra o en el mar. El sat lite puede adem s proveer de extensiones de cobertura en reas sin servicios o con servicios limitados, al igual que podr a hacerlo a pasajeros de trenes, aviones y barcos mediante servicios de transporte a las futuras redes 5G.
El sat lite tambi n ser fundamental ante el imparable desarrollo del Internet de las Cosas o de las comunicaciones M quina a M quina (M2M) y mantendr su liderazgo hist rico como tecnolog a mejor capacitada en servicios de comunicaciones seguras y en el restablecimiento de las comunicaciones ante desastres naturales, tanto de poblaci n como de sus infraestructuras.
Para concluir, Luis S nchez-Merlo ha ratificado su seguridad en la importancia del papel a jugar por la compa a en la consecuci n del proceso al afirmar que en SES estemos convencidos de que un ecosistema de comunicaciones eficiente necesita de la participaci n del sat lite para poder gestionar el inmenso volumen de datos que tendr n que ser distribuidos a trav s de las futuras redes 5G, de forma que se asegure su r pido despliegue, su eficiencia econ mica, as como la robustez de la propia red.
