KCET.ORGS NEW BALLOT BRIEF SECTION WILL PROVIDE LIVE RESULTS AND STORIES FOR CALIFORNIAS JUNE 5 PRIMARY

Ballot Brief provides context to election stories by publishing explainers and tracking how money is spent in elections.

Burbank, CA - June 4, 2012 - KCET, the nations largest independent television station serving Southern and Central California, announces the official launch of Ballot Brief, an initiative extending KCETs commitment to educate the public on elections issues. Visit it at www.kcet.org/ballotbrief

For its official launch, Ballot Brief will host live election results on an interactive page found at www.kcet.org/elections that includes a number of features:

Mapping: Easily identify which way districts are voting with the new open primary, using an interactive map.

BallotWire: Read new election stories written during the night with a sidebar that provides a rolling list of updated coverage (Also follow @KCETnews on Twitter for live updates).

Live Updating: Receive the latest up-to-the-second results without having to reload the page.

Ballot Brief has been publishing a number of useful explainers leading up to the election such as When (and Why) We Vote for Judges and How to Deconstruct Those Glossy Political Ads.

Our goal is to provide voters with the context and tools to make sense of the election process, said Brian Frank, editor of Ballot Brief. People already have plenty of options for the play-by-play approach to political news. We believe an informed public is still the strongest watchdog.

Data-driven reporting, such as Follow the Money in the June 2012 Primary: Props 28 and 29, will be another regular feature.
