Berklee hosts its biannual Global Summit-a gathering of the college's Global Partners, featuring speakers, panels, and presentations-at Boston Conservatory at Berklee for the first time, June 18-20. As part of the summit, Berklee will present concerts by students, faculty, and alumni performing classical, opera, dance, and more on June 18; and jazz and Latin original student compositions and arrangements on June 20. Both concerts are free and open to the public, and will take place at Boston Conservatory Theater, 31 Hemenway Street in Boston.
Berklee Global Partners (formerly the Berklee International Network) has grown into a collective of nearly 50 institutions and organizations around the world since its founding in 1993. The partnerships are composed of four categories: academic, network, affiliate, and special partnerships-each bringing distinct benefits to the participating organizations and their students. For instance, academic partners whose curriculum closely aligns with Berklee's have credit-transfer agreements allowing students to attend an institution close to home and then transfer to Berklee.
Berklee's academic partnerships with institutions in Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Greece, Ireland, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, South Korea, Spain, and the U.S., have facilitated a path for more than 2,000 students to attend Berklee since its inception. More than two dozen of these students and recent graduates will perform at the Global Partners Student Showcase Closing Concert.
Boston Conservatory at Berklee and Berklee Global Jazz Institute Showcase Tuesday, June 18, 7:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m.
Matthew Marsit, chair of instrumental studies, will conduct a chamber group of Boston Conservatory at Berklee students performing David Biedenbenders Shell and Wing. Patty Thom, chair of voice, will present tenor Matthew Grills singing Povero Ernesto from Don Pasquale by Gaetano Donizetti, and La Donna Mobile from Rigoletto by Giuseppe Verdi, accompanied by faculty member Nathan Salazar. Tommy Neblett, dean of the Dance Division, will present a performance by Conservatory dance students. The showcase will also feature performances by four Berklee Global Jazz Masters ensembles, led by Marco Pignataro, managing director of the Berklee Global Jazz Institute.
Berklee Global Partner Student Showcase Closing Concert Thursday, June 20, 7:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m.
Hosted by Ayn Inserto, associate professor in the Jazz Composition Department, and Dave Limina, chair of the Piano Department, the summit's closing concert presents Global Partner students currently enrolled at or recently graduated from Berklee. The program will feature original pieces in jazz, Latin, and other genres composed and/or arranged by musicians including pianist Yotam Ishay from the Rimon School of Music in Israel; laouto player Vasilis Kostas from Philippos Nakas Conservatory in Greece; pianist Joosung An from SJA Music Institute in South Korea; trumpeter Paul Sanchez from Universidad San Francisco de Quito in Ecuador; and vocalist Zach Seals from Holland College in Canada.
Berklee Global Partners, a collective of nearly 50 institutions and organizations around the world, develops educational programs, experiences, and events that explore career paths and nurture entrepreneurial opportunities. The initiative is integral to Berklee's vision of forging new connections among art forms, musical traditions, technologies, and institutions, creating a dynamic global network that fosters innovation, collaboration, and community. The partnerships also create opportunities for Berklee faculty, students, and alumni to grow as artists and individuals through collaborative programming offering artistic and cultural engagement, exchange with diverse audiences and master musicians, and the development of careers with global focus.
