St. Louis Cardinals Unveil New HD Video Boards that Rely on Grass Valley Cameras, Switcher and Control Room Equipment

MONTREAL, April 18, 2016 As baseball season opens in the U.S., St. Louis Cardinals fans have an extra reason to be excited. The team has unveiled 11 new stadium-facing state-of-the-art high-definition (HD) LED video boards at Busch Stadium. To support the operation and content delivered by the boards, the team selected Grass Valley, a Belden Brand, to equip the stadium with a more robust switcher, routers and HD cameras. The move comes as the team marks the 10th anniversary of Busch Stadium.

Most importantly, it makes the whole system easier to use and helps our team to be more effective.
Grass Valley live production equipment will run much of the control room, providing the team with considerably more production flexibility and the power to manage various feeds with a system designed to grow as their business needs change.
Grass Valley is supplying:
Five LDX 80 Premi re switchable 1080i/720p HD cameras that offer an upgrade path to expand the cameras functionality as needed using weekly or perpetual GV-eLicenses. This will give the stadium the same HD quality as the teams broadcast partners, enhancing video scoreboard production and three-camera interviews for TV, as well as live webcasts through MLB.com.
A Karrera K-Frame S-series 3 M/E video production center switcher with a 4 M/E-capable frame providing multiformat support for HD, 3G and 4K. The team will use the switchers DoubleTake feature to double the number of panel M/Es and provide simultaneous clean feeds. This will provide multiple programming options around the stadium, such as specialty graphics and feeds to different areas.
NV8280 HYBRID router for integrated audio processing and simplified cable management with NV9000 router control to embed audio channels and interface with the stadiums MADI-based audio system.
10 Kaleido-Modular-X multiviewers with split input/output that offer scalability both on the input and output side for future-proofing the stadiums investment as production needs increase.
Densit frames for modules that provide simultaneous processing of 3G, HD, SD and analog video, as well as AES and analog audio.
M3 integration cable, built with Belden high-precision cable, to simplify the interconnection between the NV8280 router and the Kaleido-Modular-X multiviewers while maintaining the highest signal integrity at rates up to 3G.
With Grass Valleys parent company Belden located here in St. Louis, it gives us a good connection and keeps the investment in the local economy, added DeWitt. Both brands have such outstanding reputations the local connection is an added bonus.
With the Cardinals upgrading all 11 stadium-facing LED scoreboards, the main video scoreboard is 120-by-40 feet, with a total size almost three times that of the previous board and with twice the resolution and brightness. All 11 boards and the control room were fully installed and operational in time for the April 11 home opener. The stadium audio system also was upgraded with new amplifiers and control software.
