Berklee's Electronic Production and Design Department (EPD) has announced the Connect 2022 EDI Summit, a first-of-its-kind event taking place June 2-5 in Boston. Sponsored by Ableton and Elektron, the summit will bring together industry-leading artists, educators, manufacturers, and music tech innovators for an exploration of current and future technologies and music-making applications for electronic instruments.
In the first of what is to become an annual experience where members of the electronic music community can share, learn, and perform, the EDI (electronic digital instrument) summit will feature in-depth workshops and live instrument demonstrations with acclaimed artists including producer and assistant professor Daedelus and electronic jazz trailblazer Mark de Clive-Lowe '94.

In the last few years we've seen an explosion of interest from electronic music producers of all kinds who want to be able to perform their work in front of a live audience, said Michael Bierylo, chair of the Electronic Production and Design Department. Berklee is at the forefront of offering students the opportunity to study electronic performance as part of their core music experience at the college, and we're excited to share this at the Connect 2022 EDI Summit.
The inaugural summit, whose theme is Machines and Musicianship, will feature discussions and instructive performances focused on the intersection of cutting-edge digital instrument technology, adaptable applications for musicians looking to incorporate eclectic elements into their music, and academic leaders seeking to create electronic music programs at their own institutions. In addition, the event will include an extensive product showcase with many of the most trusted and inventive digital instrument manufacturers from across the industry.
Other highlights include artist and technologist Dan Freeman, who will showcase an EDI controller that will be featured in his performance with the Boston Pops this summer, and Berklee faculty member Rishabh Rajan, who will use his expert knowledge of Mi.Mu Gloves to bring lush textures of sound to life with intricate hand gestures. Additional EPD faculty members participating in the event include Afro-electronica pioneer Val Jeanty (a.k.a. Val Inc.), multi-instrumentalist, producer, and certified Ableton educator Thavius Beck, and electronic artist and Berklee alumna and faculty member Claire Marie Lim (a.k.a. dolltr!ck).
Registration is now open to the public. For complete details, including the full schedule of events, visit the summits event page.
