Delve into distinctive Sky Original Production Britannia with first-look trailer and brand-new images

Journey deep into the dark and unruly world of Britannia, the unique Sky Original Production coming to Sky Atlantic early next year, with a first-look trailer and a host of new images.
Set in 43AD, the drama follows the Roman army as they return to crush the Celtic heart of Britannia, a mysterious land led by warrior women and powerful Druids who claim to channel the powerful forces of the underworld. Like never before, the nine-part series tells the story of the emotional and physical power struggle between three tribes: the Druids, Celts and Romans, who battle for the heart of Britannia.
The trailer gives us an intriguing glimpse at the show, people and relationships at its centre, as it takes a journey to a place where mystical Druids run free, invincible Celts reign unopposed and invading Romans try to bring them into line.

Mackenzie Crook (Pirates of the Caribbean) is also unveiled in a selection of never seen before images of the Britannia cast. Playing Veran, the leader of the Druids, Crooks character is feared and respected in equal measure - he answers to no one but himself and the gods.

Written by multi-award-winning Jez Butterworth (Spectre), Crook joins the cast of Britannia with Kelly Reilly (True Detective) as fearless Celtic princess Kerra, David Morrissey (The Walking Dead) as the head of the invading Roman army, Aulus, Nikolaj Lie Kaas (The Killing) as rogue Druid Divis, and Zo Wanamaker (Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone) as Celtic Queen Antedia.
The first-look trailer aired on Monday 28 August and the series will be available in the UK and Ireland on Sky Atlantic and TV streaming service NOW TV early next year.

The international distribution rights (excluding the US) for Britannia will be handled by Sky Vision, Skys international production and distribution arm.
The show was commissioned by Skys head of drama, Anne Mensah, commissioning editor Cameron Roach, and director of Sky 1, Adam MacDonald. The show was created by Jez Butterworth, Tom Butterworth and James Richardson. Executive Producers are Vertigo Films James Richardson (Monsters), Sam Mendes, Pippa Harris and Nicolas Brown from Neal Street Productions (Penny Dreadful), and Jez Butterworth and Anne Thomopoulos (Rome). The show is produced by Rick McCallum (Star Wars), while Jez and Tom Butterworth are lead writers with Richard McBrien (Spooks).
