The Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon was renewed for a second season on 23 August, just two days after the first episode of the HBO series premiered on 21 August.

HOUSE OF THE DRAGON' RENEWED FOR SEASON TWO The Daily Mail reported that House of the Dragon has been renewed for a second season after the series pulled in 20 million viewers for the first episode. Variety reports that the Game of Thrones prequel racked up almost 10 million viewers for the premiere on Sunday 21 August.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE GAME OF THRONES' PREQUEL House of the Dragon is set around 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. The prequel follows Daenerys and Jon Snow's ancestors - The Targaryen family through a civil war. House of the Dragon is based on George R.R. Martin's book Fire & Blood.

Plot: The storyline is based on a civil war between Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and her half-brother, Aegon II. The war is to determine who will succeed their father, Viserys I, to the throne. The series does not immediately jump into the war, but the events leading up to it.

Viewers can expect to find out why Dany and Jon are the last Targaryens left. The show will also shed light on why Dany's trio of dragons were the last three in the world despite the world previously being full of them.
