Largest Russian Social Media Operator to Increase Network Capacity with Cisco Cisco ASR9000 Series Deployed for Scale, Resiliency and IPv6 Support

SAN JOSE, Calif., March 15, 2013 Cisco today announced that VK.com, the largest social media operator in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States, has selected Cisco for its latest network expansion. VK.com is ranked No. 25 in Alexas global Top 500 sites and is the second most visited website in Russia, with over 190 million registered users. The enhanced network will help ensure that VK.com is capable of meeting expansion goals into Europe and Asia, while continuing to increase the quality of existing customer experiences. Integral to these growth plans is the Cisco ASR 9922 Aggregation Services Router, both for highly resilient IP connectivity and robust support for IPv6.

VK.com had two key requirements as it sought a networking solution to sustain the speed and scale of the company's growth, without compromising the quality of the user'sexperience on the site. The first was the ability to manage different types of traffic particularly critical for rich-media information containing video and audio, which is highlysensitive to any time delays caused by the network. The second requirement was high port density and overall bandwidth capacity. Given its expanding user base and the growing number of service providers wanting to provide connectivity to its site, VK.com were in need of a platform that could support a large number of 10 GE and 100 GE ports.

The Cisco ASR 9922, part of the ASR 9900 Series, was determined to best meet all of VK.com's requirements, with one of the highest 10 GE port densities in the industry operating at line rate, combined with high availability and quality of service features. Furthermore, the platforms use of Cisco IOS XR modular software operating system and design for full compliance with IPv6 now means that VK.com can meet customer demand for IPv6-based services while enabling system redundancy and network resiliency.

According to the most recent Cisco Visual Networking Index Forecast, global IP traffic is expected to increase threefold over the next five years based on the increased usage of video, mobile and cloud applications, along with social media sites such as VK.com.
