American Tobacco Celebrates First Responders with Grab & Go BBQ Appreciation Luncheon

On Wednesday, September 26, 2018, American Tobacco gave back to the Durham community by thanking First Responders with an Appreciation Day Grab and Go BBQ lunch.

On Wednesday, September 26, 2018, American Tobacco gave back to the Durham community by thanking First Responders with an Appreciation Day Grab and Go BBQ lunch. CBC Durham staffers handed out bagged lunches to First Responders as they drove by the campus from 11:30am-1:30pm.

For the 3rd year, American Tobacco staff members were thrilled to be able to thank Durhams First Responders for their service by offering a Grab n Go hot meal for:

Durham City Police Department

Durham City Fire Department

Durham County Sheriffs Office

Durham County EMS

NC State Highway Patrol

Duke University Police

NC Central University Police

With assistance of volunteers from ATCs neighbors at the Aloft Hotel and Duke Documentary Studies, 600 BBQ plates from Thrills from the Grill and goodie bags containing coupons, beverage, fruit and cookie were distributed.

The event is popular among the ATC staffers who happily help out.

Ive enjoyed the past few years working with my co-workers to help distribute the meals and grab bags assembled with the First Responders, said ATC Assistant Project Manager Drew Harms. It has been great to get to see these people and visit with them for a moment as we thank them for the valuable service they are doing for the public and our community. Hearing the officer from the squad car call out on the loud speaker for Sargent John Morris was too funny.

Morris, General Manager of American Tobacco, is a former Durham Police Officer.

It is such an honor and a privilege to be able to give something back to the men and women who give so much for us, said ATC Financial Reporting/Special Projects Account Allison Dunn. I do it to be an encouragement to our First Responders, but I walk away being the one who is encouraged. Just to see their smiles and hear their overwhelming gratitude for something as small as lunch, has me already pumped for next year!

ATC Administrative Assistant Natalie Clay agreed, saying, I love being able to say thank you to our Durhams First Responders for all that they do. Giving them lunch and a goodie bag is small, compared to what they give to all.
