On Thursday this week, South African human rights activist and poet Ntsiki Mazwai sat down with traditional healer Gogo Dineo on her first ever Unpopular Opinion podcast. The pair unpacked many things about the traditional healing community while discussing the wave of healers who have been swept in over the last few years in SA.

The podcast was seemingly a big success for Ntsiki and left many people in the comment section blown away by what Gogo Dineo had to say about traditional healers.

The x-rated entertainer took to her Instagram where she shared snaps of herself mid-ritual and wearing traditional attire.

Her behaviour was widely frowned upon by social media users who thought it is disrespectful.

Speaking to Ntsiki Mazwai in the very first episode of Unpopular Opinion, Gogo Dineo shared that she too believes that some healers have become irresponsible .

We have become irresponsible healers and I think for me, emandulo, once you become irresponsible and reckless you are not recognised as uGogo. I'm Gogo Dineo because I carry eldership. Eldership comes with responsibility, so the minute we become irresponsible and reveal sacred things, people will be like, No, it was secretive'. There's a difference between intellect and wisdom. People can be intelligent, but unwise, she tells Mazwai.

She then went on to say that there was too little outrage over a clip of Wabantu dancing in a nightclub with traditional beads on.

Time to regain control over the healing community? The seasoned Gogo also called on healers to be watched and regulated to make sure that sacred practices are kept that way.

I definitely think we need traditional bodies to regulate this. I'm so ready for that. We need to lay down the law and to have control. We need control in the black nation. People can't just do as they please. Another thing is that some people think they have amaDlozi, but it is sometimes unhealed childhood trauma. And if they went to therapy you will find that they wouldn't do most of the stuff that they do. So we can't allow our things to be disrespected. They have been disrespected enough.
