EFF list: 50% of candidates are female, #FeesMustFall activists selected

The EFF have released their list of 200 candidates who would represent the party as MPs, should they win big at the 2019 Elections. Their list claims to be the most diverse and youth-friendly selection of the lot although, when you're competing with the ANC, that isn't exactly mission impossible

The ruling party have been roundly chastised for the release of their list, which features a host of nominees who were been recently implicated in corruption scandals (*cough*, Nomvula Mokonyane) or have just downright embarrassed themselves and the ANC recently.

Malusi Gigaba would waltz back into Parliament too, just months after a series of scandals forced him to quit. He was found guilty of perjury by the Constitutional Court, around the same time an illicit video of him performing a sex act went viral on social media.

EFF list who would represent the party in Parliament? So the EFF feel like they've got some sort of moral high ground, here. They released their list of Parliamentary candidates before anyone else on Wednesday, boasting that they have an exact 50/50 split of men to women and have now absorbed members of the #FeesMustFall movement.

Naledi Chirwa and Vuyani Pambo were both pivotal figures in the demonstrations, which shut down university campuses and caused chaos in a bid to see university fees reduced their goal was achieved when Jacob Zuma made the grandstand decision to implement plans for free higher education.

EFF Spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi revealed the party were delighted with the outcome, lauding the young blood that was being funnelled into their fight for economic freedom :

The list has a gender balance, consistent with the principle of the zebra approach' on 50/50 representation. It also has a good balance of geographical locations and age.

This list is the result of a rigorous democratic process which involved each member being subject to an internal ballot, including Julius Malema. We've added young revolutionaries from the #FeesMustFall movement, [giving us] a collective of fighters who have cut their teeth on the picket line.

Mbuyiseni Ndlozi Top 10 candidates Unsurprisingly, Julius Malema tops the EFF list and is closely flanked by his right-hand man, Floyd Shivambu. Dali Mpofu completes the top three, whereas Hlengiwe Mkhaliphi and Godrich Gardee make up the top five. Mbuyiseni Ndlozi came seventh and Marshall Dlamini holds his top 10 spot, following an altercation at Parliament in February.
