The 2022 MTV Video Music Awards (MTV VMAs) took place on Sunday 28 August at the Prudential Center in New Jersey. Rapper Nicki Minaj made history as the second female rapper to receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, also known as the Lifetime Achievement Award. Minaj also won the Best Hip-Hop Award.

Taylor Swift won the Video of the Year Award for All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor's Version) and surprised her fans with the announcement of a new album.

NICKI MINAJ HONOURED WITH MICHAEL JACKSON VIDEO VANGUARD AWARD The Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the MTV VMAs is also known as the Lifetime Achievement Award. On 28 August, Nicki Minaj became the fourth rapper to ever receive the award.

In her acceptance speech, Minaj thanked those who gave her an opportunity to show her talents and also shone the spotlight on music legends Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson.

I wish that Whitney Houston and Michael Jackon were here. I wish that people would understand what they meant and what they were going through. I wish people took mental health seriously, even for the people who you think have perfect lives, said the Moment 4 Life hitmaker.

TAYLOR SWIFT ANNOUNCES A NEW ALBUM AT MTV VMAS Pop icon Taylor Swift beat out the likes of Doja Cat, Drake, Lil Nas X and Olivia Rodrigo to win the Video of the Year Award for All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor's Version).

Accepting the award, Swift surprised her fans by announcing her 10th studio album titled Midnights set to be released on 21 October.

Taking to Twitter on 29 August, the 22 hitmaker said the album is a collection of music written in the middle of the night .

A journey through terrors and sweet dreams. The floors we pace and the demons we face. For all of us who have tossed and turned and decided to keep the lanterns lit and go searching hoping that just maybe when the clock strikes 12 we'll meet ourselves.
