HD Channel Upgrade & two new HD Control Rooms w/5.1 Sound
This project covered the turnkey delivery, installation, and commissioning of four new HD Sports Channels for Viasat Sports at their Broadcast Centre in Stockholm, Sweden.
The project included upgrading existing Harris IconMaster Switchers to full HD and building two new HD Control Rooms with full Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound Monitoring.
The two new Control Rooms each use the 8 AES stereo channels to support two & three languages, and each language receives separate Dolby AC-3 encoding. Also installed was an expansion of the Harris Platinum HD-SDI Router, wiring of Harris AES DAs, Harris HD Embedders, and Miranda HD to SD Down converters.
Additional computers were integrated to the system, including VIZ-RT HD Graphics PCs and VIZ-RT Graphics Hubs, as well as other infrastructure upgrades including Reference sync and Word.
Each of the two new Control Rooms were upgraded with a complete Genelec Surround Sound system with five speakers and a subwoofer for full Dolby 5.1 Monitoring, and each Multiviewer received a HD-DVI signal via fiber from the CAR. The Harris IconMaster Control panel, Clearcom Intercom as well as KVM extenders were all cabled with shielded CAT6 cable, and a new termination panel was provided with tie-lines to the CAR.
Viasat also upgraded their QC Media Desk with a local HD-SDI Router, Dual HD-Flatscreens, a new Windows 7 PC with Blu-Ray DVD and a new 27 iMac Computer. A separate MacPro Editing station was delivered, and integrated to the existing network.
The work included custom wiring installation in the Central Apparatus Room (CAR) with the installation of Cabling for the video matrix, AES Embedders and AES DAs, Down Converters, VIZ-RT Graphics computers, Intercom, audio and control cables, as well as wiring to the two control rooms.
