Mzansi Magic and Moja Love recently revealed the process of airing TV shows iZangoma Zodumo, Isipho Sethonga, and Gogo Skhotheni which focus on the lives of sangomas.

The head of the channel at Moja Love, Bokani Moyo tells TshisaLIVE that the criteria used to select their shows was the same throughout.

MOJA LOVE AND MZANSI MAGIC: CRITERIA USED Mzansi Magic airs iZangoma Zodumo which stars sangomas Prudence Magagula and Makgotso Makopo while Moja Love airs Gogo Skhotheni and Isipho Sethonga.

Mzansi Magic's director of local entertainment channels Shirley Adonisi tells the publication that they look at the relevance and if the show was a good fit for the channel before it premiers on TV.

While Moja Love conducts extensive research before broadcasting these types of shows, as they don't want to step on anyone's toes.

Bokani Moyo from Moja Love adds:

The criteria we use for shows on ubungoma is the same as those we use for other shows on the channel. As media, our role [is to be] educational, informative, and entertaining. If it ticks these boxes, we go for it, combined with the public interest.

We are a proudly SA company and live in a diverse nation, so we research every subject we have on our channel so we don't offend anyone.

WHAT LED TO BROADCASTING SANGOMA CONTENT? Moyo adds that Moja Love doesn't broadcast sangoma content only but explores different facets of society, and ubungoma is one of them.

The channel director also states that there's a rise in interest when it comes to sangoma content across the board, from social media to broadcast as people are more aware of spirituality than ever.

When asked where they draw the line with regards to freedom to express and film he says that they film and are responsible for broadcast content.

The channel still needs to adhere to the laws of the country and guidelines of the BCCSA (Broadcasting Complaints Commission of SA).

DO CHANNELS CENSOR CONTENT?

Mzansi Magic's director of local entertainment channels Shirley Adonisi says to take careful consideration that children also consume their content and are careful how they portray issues.

They always take into consideration the relevance of their viewers and channel fit before selecting a show.
