TO HEADLINE DAA SEMINAR AT SCTE ISBE CABLE-TEC EXPO

More Than 600 Registered For Oct. 22 Event; Limited Seating Remains For Oct. 25 Evolution' Program

SEPT. 25, 2018 (Exton, PA)-Executives from Charter Communications, Comcast, Cox Communications, Shaw Communications, and Denmark's Stofa will headline an all-star cast of technologists who will share insights on the specifics of the industry's transition to Distributed Access Architectures at an SCTE ISBE Cable-Tec Expo seminar on Monday, Oct. 22, the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) and its global arm, the International Society of Broadband Experts (ISBE), announced today. The seminar is being sponsored jointly by SCTE ISBE and CableLabs .

Kevin Kwasny, Principal Engineer II for Charter, Rob Howald, Vice President, Network Architecture for Comcast, Jeff Finkelstein, Executive Director, Advanced Technologies for Cox, Jamie Brown, Director, Network Technologies for Shaw, and Kjeld Balmer, Head of Network Technology for Stofa A/S, will discuss how operators are using DAA to effect a dramatic transformation of service delivery by moving network functionality closer to the customer. In addition, DAA insights will be shared by two CableLabs technologists-Doug Jones, Principal Architect, and Jon Schnorr, Lead Engineer, Network Technologies-as well as by a variety of vendor thought leaders.

A follow-up to last year's overwhelmingly successful Remote PHY seminar at Expo, the morning event will address the ability of DAAs and the Headend Rearchitected as a Datacenter (HERD) to drive cost efficiencies, faster time to market, and increased customer satisfaction in conjunction with the continued evolution of cable access networks. The DAA seminar already has attracted more than 600 registrants.

In addition to Kwasny, Howald, Finkelstein, Brown, and Balmer, DAA seminar speakers will include: Tom Cloonan, Chief Technical Officer-Network Solutions, and Mike Emmendorfer, Vice President, Systems Engineering and Architecture, from ARRIS; Peter Wolff, Vice President, Wireline Product Management at Casa Systems; John Chapman, CTO Cable Access and Fellow at Cisco; Asaf Matatyaou, Vice President of Solutions and Product Management at Harmonic; Barak Hermesh, Owner of Network Technology at Intel Network Platforms Group; Steven Krapp, Technical Marketing Director at MaxLinear; Jeff White, Head of Cable Strategy and Business Development at Nokia; Timon Sloane, Vice President, Marketing and Ecosystem from the Open Networking Foundation; and Colin Howlett, Vice President, Architecture, Vecima Networks.

The seminar will continue last year's discussion of Remote PHY, but it also will include presentations on the role that will be played by Remote MAC PHY and the Flexible MAC Architecture (FMA), which combines Remote MAC+PHY Device (RMD), Remote MAC Core (RMC), Physical MAC Core (pCore), and Virtual MAC Core (vCore). Other topics will include Full Duplex DOCSIS , Extended Spectrum DOCSIS, and the initiatives behind a Generic Access Platform.

Limited seating is available for a second network architecture conference at Expo, Evolution of Access Networks: Deployment Strategies and Use Cases, a Thursday, Oct. 25 session that has been created in partnership with ADTRAN. Under the leadership of Program Chair Kevin Hart, Executive Vice President and Chief Product and Technology Officer for Cox Communications, SCTE ISBE Cable-Tec Expo 2018 has attracted a banner list of speakers. Following opening remarks by Hart, the Opening General Session on Tuesday, Oct. 23 will feature a keynote by Pat Esser, president of Cox Communications, and a landmark panel comprising: Michael Powell, president and CEO of NCTA-The Internet & Television Association; Phil McKinney, president and CEO of CableLabs ; Mark Dzuban, president and CEO of SCTE ISBE; and moderator Tony Werner, President, Technology, Product, Xperience, Comcast Cable.

Further CEO insights will be provided by two all-CEO panels in Innovation Theater: an opening panel during which NTCA's Shirley Bloomfield, NCTC's Rich Fickle, and ACA's Matt Polka will discuss success strategies for small, midsize, and rural markets (moderated by Cablefax publisher Mike Grebb); and a panel featuring Cable ONE's Julie Laulis and AlcaCruz's Emily Ward, moderated by The Cable Center's Jana Henthorn. Vernice FlyGirl Armour, America's first African American female combat pilot, will bring her message of going gutsy to achieve breakthrough results to the Annual Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, Oct. 24.
