Durham Bulls Home Opening Day Through the Eyes of a New HR Staffer

The Durham Bulls took on the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp in the home opener at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Tuesday, April 2, 2024. The night was a first-ever opening day at the DBAP for Corp HR Business Partner Michelle Brooks, who joined Capitol Broadcasting in March.

Diving in headfirst was a bit of a trial by fire as Brooks stepped up to the plate to immediately help onboard around 50 seasonal baseball hires at the ballpark.

The hard work was all worth it when she experienced the home opener.

My WOW moment of opening night was on the upper deck of the park where I took that snapshot of the whole field, Brooks told CapCom. The weather was perfect, and the energy of the fans and staff was contagious. I love being a part of such a hard-working, dedicated team.

The new employee is already making a positive impression.

Michelle joined our HR team right as baseball hires were really ramping up, said Corp Talent Acquisition Specialist Lori Grant. From day one she rolled up her sleeves and jumped in, not only getting to know the HR team in Raleigh but getting to know all of the hiring managers and team members in Durham. She's done an amazing job of trying to get to know each of their needs while trying to streamline the process as we look forward to long term approaches for hiring in the future. Imagine being in a kayak for the first time and being thrown right into the river rapids before ever getting to just paddle down a calm river. Michelle has navigated it all with absolute grace.

The Bulls return home next Tuesday, April 23, to face the Scranton Wilkes-Barre RailRiders in a day game. The matchup kicks off a 6-day home stretch. Get Tickets
