SNW Names NetApp as a Winner in Its Fall 2010 "Best Practices" Awards Program NetApp Recognized by SNW for Excellence in IT Management Technology
SUNNYVALE, Calif. - November 10, 2010 -NetApp (NASDAQ: NTAP) today announced that it has been named by SNW as a winner in its Fall 2010 Best Practices Awards Program in the Energy Efficiency, Green Computing, and Data Center category. SNWs Best Practices Awards Program identifies and acknowledges excellence among users of IT management solutions and approaches.
NetApp was recognized for its groundbreaking data center in Research Triangle Park (RTP), North Carolina. The data center, which opened in 2009, uses revolutionary technology and design principles to reduce waste and to be up to 80% more efficient than traditional data centers. When fully utilized, the RTP data center is designed to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 95,000 tons per year, which is equivalent to removing 16,000 cars per year from the road. The RTP data center was also the first data center to earn an Energy Star rating from the EPA, with a near-perfect score of 99 out of 100.
NetApp primarily uses the RTP data center to further research initiatives and improve flexibility and efficiency with shared IT infrastructure technologies to deliver cloud computing and IT on demand, which help customers around the world accelerate their business. With its innovative design and construction, the data center also serves as a blueprint for organizations looking to design their own dynamic data centers.
We built the RTP data center from the ground up to be the example of how companies can deploy flexible and efficient shared IT infrastructures that deliver the service levels they need and also maximize IT efficiency, said Thom Bryant, vice president of Workplace Resources at NetApp. Were proud that representatives from more than 500 organizations have toured our facility to see how best-of-breed design and technology can help them achieve greater flexibility and efficiency by moving to a shared IT infrastructure.
