Full Members Prepare To Vote For the Prestigious 07 Music Producers Guild Awards Shortlist

Voting for the 2017 Music Producers Guild Awards gets underway on November 1st, 2016, and runs through to November 10th, 2016.

MPG Full Members can vote in 13 of the 16 Awards categories, with the three remaining Awards (Outstanding Contribution, Inspiration and Special Contribution) being in the gift of the MPG. There is also an opportunity for A&R administrators to get involved as they have been given special dispensation to vote for the Studio of the Year Award.

The Studio of the Year is a difficult category to judge and we wanted to make sure that all those people who actually use studios could have their say at this stage of the proceedings, says MPG Awards Managing Director, Tony Platt.

This will also be the first year for an entirely new Award category Self-Producing Artist Award.

We have introduced this Award because, whilst the boundary between producer and artist has become less defined, the complexity of combining the roles comes with its own unique challenges and we feel this should be individually recognised, says MPG Awards Director, Dan Cox.

Now in its ninth year, the 2017 Music Producers Guild Awards will take place on February 16th, 2017, at the prestigious Grosvenor House, Park Lane, London. Seen as one of the most important events on the music industry calendar, this is the only UK event to fly the flag for producers, engineers, remixers and mastering engineers. Previous award winners have included Sir George Martin CBE, Youth, Paul Epworth, FKA Twigs, Brian Eno, Catherine Marks, Trevor Horn and Dave Stewart.

MPG Awards are given to people who have truly achieved something special in the eyes of their peers, Tony Platt adds. Although the process of submitting a name is open to everyone, the actual voting process is very tightly controlled. Recording, mixing, re-mixing and mastering music is complicated, which is why we feel the best people to judge the quality of a recording professionals work are other recording professionals. That way, we can ensure MPG Awards are given to people who really deserve them.

MPG Full Members who take part in voting could win valuable free studio time, thanks to an incentive that has been arranged in conjunction with All Studios and 10 commercial recording studios including Air-Edel, Far Heath, The Parlour, Prism Studios, State Of The Ark, Sugarcane, Smokehouse Studios, Snap!, The Silk Mill and 80 Hertz. Any Full Member who votes in eight or more of the 13 eligible Award categories will automatically be entered into a prize draw to win two days studio time in one of these facilities. The first prize winner will have first choice of all ten, the second prize winner will have a choice of the remaining nine and the third can choose from the last eight. There is still time for recording professionals who are currently not members of MPG - or are not Full Members - to join or upgrade to Full Membership so that they can play an active role in deciding who should win one of these prestigious awards. The shortlist for the 2017 MPG Awards will be announced in November 2016, with final judging taking place a month later.

On the night, Award-winning Absolute Radio DJ and Stand Up comic Christian OConnell will be the presenter and once again the headline sponsor will be Prism Sound, who manufacturer specialist equipment for the pro audio and broadcast industries. Nominee seats at the ceremony will once again be sponsored by Avid.
