With young people worldwide joining the school climate strikes to protest lack of progress on climate change, tve is launching tvebiomovies 2019 to give the world's youth the opportunity to showcase their environmental actions to a global audience through video blogs.
Celebrating 10 successful years championing youth voices on environment, tvebiomovies once again provides the platform for this year's Global Youth Video Competition. This year the focus is on actions to protect land, biodiversity and the climate, three critical interlinked global crises. For 2019 tve has teamed up with three United Nations agencies which together cover climate change, desertification and biodiversity. The competition, now in its fifth year, invites young people from around the world to submit short films showcasing their actions and ideas to tackle climate change, land degradation and loss of biodiversity and to share them with their peers and global online viewers. In 2018, tvebiomovies received 306 film entries from over 100 countries. The shortlisted entries have been viewed more than 290,000 times.

The Secretariats of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in partnership with the Global Environment Facility-United Nations Development Programme Small Grants Programme (UNDP/GEF SGP) are collaborating with Television for the Environment (tve) to organize the 2019 Global Youth Video Competition.
The Global Youth Video Competition 2019 forms one strand in the tvebiomovies youth film outreach project organized by tve since 2010. The Global Youth Video Competition invites submissions of 3-minute videos showcasing positive solutions around three themes: Nature-based Solutions for Food and Human Health; Cities and Local Action to combat Climate Change; and Balancing use of Land for People and Ecosystems.
tve's digital outreach manager, Nick Turner, said: Young people are rising up across the planet and demanding governments and companies take action to halt the damage being done to nature and our planet. We need urgent action to reduce harmful emissions, restore ecosystems and protect wildlife. tvebiomovies gives a voice to young people to share positive, solutions-based stories from across the world. Each year the number and quality of entries keep increasing and we are looking forward to seeing more amazing messages again this year. With young people pressuring governments from below while acting in their local communities, the fight to save the planet is a race we can win!
Shortlisted films will be showcased at the UN Secretary General's Climate Summit in New York in September. The winner from each of the three categories will be invited to the UN climate conference in Chile in December 2019 (COP25), where they will join the UN Climate Change communications team to help share information about the conference with young people worldwide.
Entrants must be between the ages of 18 and 30 and videos must be submitted by 28 July 2019.
