ESPN and Vizrt shortlisted for IBC Innovation Award

ESPN was shortlisted for their new IP-based broadcast facility which uses Vizrt as a key content provider, driving 150 studio screens and graphics.

IBC has announced the shortlist for the 2015 Innovation awards. This years' shortlist focuses on broadcasters that have used technology to tackle the evolution of media distribution technology, enabling them to be prepared for future challenges. The winners will be announced 13th September in Amsterdam during the IBC Awards Ceremony.

ESPN has been nominated in the category of Content Management. ESPN's new studio, the Digital Center 2, is the first fully ethernet connected production studio in the world. The studio includes over 1100 miles (1770 km) of fiber and is designed to be format agnostic allowing ESPN to easily grow as formats change in the future.

Another unique feature of the Digital Center 2 is the heavy use of monitors in the studio. Over 150 monitors are used between the two main studios and driving content for those monitors are multiple Viz Engines, specially designed by ESPN working with Vizrt, with eight output channels each. This technical innovation along with custom control interfaces, gave ESPN unmatched flexibility for content management in the studio.
