La consultora CCS Insight ha aumentado sus expectativas a corto plazo para las conexiones 5G despu s de que una serie de operadores anunciara sus ambiciones de llevar nuevos servicios sobre 5G m s r pidamente de lo que se esperar a.
Seg n las previsiones, las conexiones de 5G alcanzar n los 340 millones en 2021, antes de superar los 1.000 millones en el primer semestre de 2023. Para 2025, se espera que el total alcance los 2.700 millones, lo que equivale a m s de una conexi n de cada cinco en el mundo.
Kester Mann, analista principal de CCS Insight, asegura que las intenciones de las principales telcos estadounidenses de lanzar el 5G a finales de 2018 han sido claras desde hace tiempo. Pero recientemente hemos visto una mayor urgencia por desplegar redes de proveedores en Europa, Oriente Medio y China. Mientras que Europa puede estar todav a a un a o de los mercados l deres en 5G, algunos operadores regionales est n claramente decididos a lanzar servicios comerciales tan pronto como sea posible el pr ximo a o .
En los ltimos meses, telcos como Telia, Telecom Italia, BT, Swisscom o Telenor han anunciado despliegues precomerciales 5G. De hecho, la operadora finlandesa Elisa ha ido un paso m s all , afirmando que ya ha lanzado una red comercial, aunque sin dispositivos de apoyo.
Por su parte, otras telcos como Vodafone, Orange, Deutsche Telekom o Telef nica de momento est n llevando a pruebas de campo con pilotos, sin atreverse a poner sobre la mesa una fecha de lanzamiento de servicios comerciales 5G.
Sin embargo, una vez que las redes sean lanzadas, la motivaci n para atraer a los usuarios hacia ellas ser enorme. El pron stico 5G de CCS Insight para Europa Occidental prev m s de 20 millones de conexiones 5G a finales de 2020, multiplic ndose por cinco hasta llegar a m s de 100 millones dos a os m s tarde , comenta Mann.
Otra regi n con una perspectiva m s positiva a corto plazo es Oriente Medio, despu s de que varios operadores hayan anunciado despliegues tempranos de redes.
China sigue siendo la mayor fuente mundial de adopci n de 5G con diferencia, y varios factores han impulsado a CCS Insight a aumentar a n m s sus expectativas. El mayor operador del pa s, China Mobile, podr a incluso contar con una red comercial el pr ximo 2019. Adem s, los proveedores locales de infraestructura, Huawei y ZTE, podr an centrar su atenci n en el mercado nacional tras las recientes tensiones geopol ticas que han llevado a entornos m s desafiantes en varios mercados, incluidos los de EE.UU. y Australia. Y se ha rumoreado que una posible fusi n de China Telecom y China Unicom est impulsada por el deseo de lograr la supremac a mundial de la 5G.
CCS Insight espera que China supere a los Estados Unidos y se convierta en el mayor mercado de 5G en 2020, con 40 millones de conexiones. Para 2025, las conexiones en China superar n los 1.000 millones, lo que representa casi cuatro de cada diez conexiones en todo el mundo.
