Grass Valley and Tripwire Unveil Blueprint for Secure Playout
Companies under the Belden umbrella come together to ensure safe, reliable movement of digital media on IP networks
MONTREAL, April 17, 2016 While broadcasters today enjoy the many benefits of increased connectivity through open technologies such as IP, they also find a growing need for integrated security. Digital assets that include video files, graphics, data and more are moving freely across IP networks, making them more vulnerable to individuals outside the previously closed, proprietary broadcast workflow chain. To address this need, Grass Valley and Tripwire, both Belden Brands, are unveiling a new blueprint for secure playout.

Our blueprint for secure playout combines the best practices of 50 years of Grass Valley broadcast expertise with the security knowledge and expertise of Tripwire, which is trusted by more than 50 percent of Fortune 500 companies. As the industry migrates to IP, security has to be a fundamental pillar of the transition to ensure the protection of these valuable digital assets.
At the heart of the blueprint for secure playout is a simple three-step principle: secure the network; secure the servers; secure dedicated broadcast equipment. Grass Valley is applying this blueprint to its iTX Integrated Playout platform first.
Playout is one of the most critical steps in content delivery connecting broadcasters with their biggest audiences. Grass Valley iTX, one of the leading playout solutions on the market, delivered more than 17.5 million hours of television last year and can transform any broadcast operation into an efficient, scalable well-oiled machine without compromise in quality, flexibility, or control. iTX delivers channels in SD/HD/4K and over SDI or IP, including robust live event management with the most complete real-time processing algorithms; and provides enhanced automation of ingest for streamlined workflows, while lowering the cost of running television channels.
The Tripwire blueprint includes Tripwire IP360 TM, a vulnerability and risk management solution, providing complete visibility into the enterprise network, including all networked devices and their associated operating systems, applications and vulnerabilities. Its a key foundational control for effective security risk management.
When applied with iTX, the blueprint for secure playout technology maintains security across the network, offering advanced threat detection to ensure broadcast systems are protected against new threats. The iTX Playout platform is the first in the broadcast industry verified to support the Tripwire security solutions and is just the first of many Grass Valley products to be offered as part of a comprehensive Tripwire solution.
Tripwire already provides end point detection and response, security and compliance and IT operations solutions to more than 9,000 organizations, including enterprises, service providers and government agencies around the world. The technology makes it easier to detect, prevent and respond to cyber security threats.
