Mammut, the Swiss manufacturer of hiking equipment and clothing, was impressed with the technology behind the ZEISS VR ONE. In around 40 locations in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, the outdoor specialist provides exclusive access to the alps with the help of the ZEISS VR ONE. Visitors to the Mammut sales rooms for its high-quality outdoor apparel can virtually feel the steep rock faces and the rough winds. This is all made possible by Mammuts own #project360 app. It enables users to experience fascinating routes from a climbers perspective and directly from the slope. "The ZEISS VR ONE virtual reality headset allows you to so intensively experience the spectacular 360-degree images and videos of the project that you really feel like you have been whisked away to this one-of-a-kind mountain world," says Christian Gisi, Head of marketing Communications for the Mammut Sports Group.
Fantastic panorama view of the Eiger north face
The amazing images for the #project360 app are provided by a special backpack equipped with six cameras. Professional alpinists Dani Arnold and Stephan Siegrist each wore such a backpack on their journey along the legendary Heckmair Route on the Eiger north face. The result is a virtual ascent of the imposing wall and an impressive 360-degree panorama view. The ZEISS VR ONE brings this world tantalizingly close. It allows wearers to move along the slope, engage their fear of heights while looking at the steep drop and thus experience the mountains in all their glory. The viewing direction and the images seen in this unique mountain world depend entirely on the user. Five routes and mountains are already available for the ZEISS VR ONE: Eiger north face (Switzerland), Matterhorn H rnligrat (Switzerland), El Capitan (USA), Mount Elbrus (Belarus) and the R bezahl Ice Falls (Switzerland). Around 30 are planned by the end of the year.
Multimedia implementation with the ZEISS VR ONE
The technological heart of this digital experience is a smartphone with a display size between 4.7 and 5.2 inches. In combination with the innovative optics and precision lenses of the ZEISS VR ONE, this enables users to completely immerse themselves in the virtual world. Simply select an appropriate VR app, use the enclosed tray to slide the smartphone into the headset and then dive into the world of virtual reality.
