NetApp Named a CIO 100 Award Honoree by CIO Magazine SUNNYVALE, Calif.-July 28, 2010- IDGs CIO magazine recently announced NetApp (NASDAQ: NTAP) as a recipient of the 2010 CIO 100 award for its innovative vSearch sales enablement tool. The 23rd annual award program recognizes organizations around the world that exemplify the highest level of operational and strategic excellence in information technology (IT).

This years CIO 100 awards draw well-deserved attention to companies that are not only innovating with IT but creating genuine business value as well, said Maryfran Johnson, editor in chief of CIO magazine and Events. These winning companies and their IT organizations are an inspiration to businesses everywhere.

NetApp has a large global technical sales force (SEs) and reseller sales force that must always be up to speed and proficient on the entire NetApp product line. The traditional way to make this happen entailed flying them to different locations around the world for live, three-day conferences to provide the latest on NetApps more than 200 products. This approach presented obvious challenges and took the sales force away from their day jobs. To address this situation and streamline the process, NetApp turned to NetApp University, an organization within the company that provides employees with education and resources to help them do their jobs more efficiently.

NetApp University worked with partner Altus Learning to develop vSearch, an on-demand sales enablement platform that makes a wealth of technical and product information accessible to all. vSearch allows NetApp to digitally record sales conferences and other meetings and make the content readily available via the sales enablement platform. As a result, SEs and NetApp partners are now able to watch the events on demand instead of traveling, providing them with near-instant access to the critical information they need. Furthermore, as evidenced through trend reports, NetApp SEs and partners make return trips to the system to search through the presentations and download the assets they need to sell and do their jobs successfully.

The 2010 CIO 100 awards will be presented at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, on August 24 at the conclusion of the 12th annual CIO 100 Symposium and Awards Ceremony.

The recipients of this years CIO 100 awards were selected through a three-step process. First, companies filled out an online application form detailing their innovative IT and business initiatives. Next, a team of judges reviewed the applications in depth, looking for unique practices and substantial results. Finally, CIO editors reviewed the judges recommendations and voted on the final 100. Once the top 100 honorees were selected, several honorees were chosen to receive an additional special award. The recipients of this special award will be revealed at the CIO 100 awards ceremony in August.
